Open a terminal session, then enter

alsamixer

Have a play around with unmuting any channels showing [MM] by moving to and hit "M". Also increase volume with up-arrow.

You may need to experiment a bit and see what happens.

Yes, Plank doesn't work on Wayland, only on Xorg. Because of the Sound: You could try it with PulseAudio Volume Control.
