All Drives Now Boot to Grub Rescue Long Read

Where to begin .... what a mess .... I bought an external drive case for my new Samsung 1 TB SSD drive so I could make it bootable by installing my latest Rescuezilla backup for Mint 22.1 ... I dual boot Zorin 17.2 and Mint 22.1 ....

I need to point out that before installing the Samsung SSD internally my boot up screen showed 1 drive named .....

Ubuntu (WDC PC - 256 GB - 1002)

No other drive is listed even though I have both a 1 TB HDD with Zorin installed ..... which is being replaced by the 1 TB Samsung SSD ..... on it and a 238 GB SSD drive ..... which is listed above ..... with Mint installed ....

I did not want to open my laptop and install the Samsung SSD ..... in my younger days I would have ..... so the Mrs took it to the tech to install and he called and said that when he booted it up all it showed was a GRUB Prompt screen ...... I told him to send it back ...... I only asked him to install the SSD ....

The first thing I did was to opened my boot sequence and I notice I now have 2 drives listed in my boot Order ..... the Ubuntu (WDC PC - 256 GB - 1002) and now .....

Ubuntu (PO: Samsung SSD 870 EVO 1 TB)

So I changed it to the Ubuntu and it booted into the OS choices screen .... not sure what you call it ..... Zorin was listed but Mint was not .....

I opened gparted and saw that both drives were listed ..... not wanting to loose Mint 22.1 .... I opened Rescuezilla and choose Restore ..... selected my saved backup disk and the Samsung SSD and hit enter ..... when it completed I removed both the thumb drive and backup disk then powered back up .....

When the laptop powered up I was greeted by what I guess is the Grub Rescue .... at least it shows a Grub Command Lline ..... so I switched the boot order and now I get a Grub Command Line on that drive too ..... I did what any sane person should do .... shut down the computer and took a nap ..... woke up ate supper watched some TV on Grub Rescue videos and went to bed .....

I woke up this morning and had a brain storm as I had no way to ask for help ..... without firing up an old Acer running win7 ....... why not plug in my old HDD which was left installed in the 2.5 external case vacated by the new Samsung SSD and it started right up giving me a choice to first run Zorin and then run Mint .... but I still have to keep it plugged in to run my laptop as soon as I unplug it and start back up the Grub Command Line comes back .....

Now for what I learned on YouTube ..... I first and foremost thing I learnd is that everyone is not an IT Tech ....you have to really search to find something you can understand as the majority speak way above my paygrade .....

One guy I did find that I could understand is in this video it’s only 5 mins long and he uses your installation media to reinstall Grub with the terminal and all command lines are listed below his video ...... I hope someone will review this and let me know if will work in my case or do you know of something better or faster .....

I'm going to wait a few days before trying anything as I can at least use my computer by booting into a external USB drive .....

Thanks to any and all help you can provide .....

The videos are helpful.
You need only try running Grub repair by booting from your Live USB stick and selecting Try Zorin.

As you can see, it is quite easy once you remove all the talk and fluff from tutorial videos trying to pad their content length.

Thank you sir .... I see I have some reading to do with the link you provided .... I'll let you know how I make out a bit later .....

I followed Aravisian's Post above and used a Live USB stick and opened Zorin .... selected the Try Zorin version ..... clicked on the Grub Repair in the Menu but for what ever reason it didn't solve the problem .....

I then chose the Mint Live USB and found more choices in the Grub Repair in the Menu ..... that worked and a Grub Repaired message appeared .... rebooted and I can now select either Zorin or Mint as my OS .....

Thanks Aravisian for your help for pointing me in the right direction ....

Glad you got sorted Frog. Computers can be a headache at times to say the least. I recently updated Q4OS on my good lady's PC and it freezes now. Was looking at alternatives and she told me off for messing with it. She says she doesn't need it (She has regressed, using her Motorola phone even while 'watching' TV!)

Thanks for your reply .... I'm gonna shorten my post above as it is a bit to long and kinda wondering and after taking a nap realized not to helpful ..... LOL

I wouldn't it shares real life experience and empathy.
