The positive of switching to XFCE is that there is a lot of choice when you're looking at distros

Reading your post and i am little humoristic. What gived you new version Zorin 18?
Linux is simple when you understable - kernel,package manager and desktop enviroment. That all diffrents. If you complain about Zorin you can always changing distribution. Zorin they have a strenght ideas where are not changed from many years ago. I appreciate that and respectfull because good plan "gived fruits". Besides check how many linux distributions died and developers quit from projects.
Maybe you can be interesting a Cubic in Launchpad @Omnimaxus - I was enjoying creating own linux and how it works. Important to check packages if they don't broken your distribution. Compiling packages sometimes take a time. Cheers!
