Asking about my suggestion to integrate the Windows 10 Start-Menu

Hi there :waving_hand:

It's now six months ago I make the suggestion to integrate the Windows 10 Start-Menu into Zorin OS. See this thread: [Suggestion] Windows 10 start menu with tile groups

I want to ask, if there are any news and a hope to get this wish come true?

I still doubt about it, like I had suggested you in the first topic, you can use ArcMenu

Or you install kde-standard and login to that and install 'Tiled-Menu', or install an old stable version of Q4OS, 5.9, then install 'LookSwitcher' post install which includes a full Win10 theme including Tiled Menu.

Alternatively, the hard way:

Well, Hope never dies. But there are no Announcements to that.

It maybe my straight talking, but if you owned a ford all your life, now ford won't support the maintenance, the new ford model isn't as good.
You decide to buy a Toyota and ask them to put ford badges on it. ????
Keep using the old ford and maintain it yourself.

The Win 10 start menu was designed as a dual system for tablets and desktop.

I do not think this analogy holds.

The O.P. is not asking for a Windows OS Badge.

He asked for familiar User Interface compatibility.

A more apt analogy would be if a Ford Owner bought a Toyota and suggested that they have the turn signal lever on the right side of the steering wheel.
Or a person in the USA buying a Jaguar in the USA, and suggesting it be left hand drive instead of right hand drive.

Hi, I don't think that is entirely accurate. Windows 10 was designed with Desktop users in mind following the poor acceptance of Windows 8 losing the Start Menu, and also was trying to break into the Tablet market.
What Windows 10 did was introduce a separate item called Tablet Mode.

The only DE that can recreate Windows 10 with ease is KDE Plasma. At least with Zorin 18 you have access to KDE Plasma 5.27. In this version you can easily slide the tiles around, not so in Plasma 6.3.6 as the Tiled Menu needs tiles to be positioned with x/y co-ordinate adjustments, wheras in 5.27 you can easily slide them around to a new position. The default preset groups are 'Productivity' (Office Apps and GMail) and 'Explore' (The OS's default Browser), so you can add more Groups (e.g., Entertainment, Gaming, etc) but then if using default 4x4 squares your Tiled element will require expanding by dragging the right hand top corner with the mouse to view, but you can resize the tiles to a minimum and edit any text to be removed that can obliterate seeing the icon.

There is a new Tiled Menu written by a different author called Tiled Menu Prime, which in my testing other OS's only works with Fedora 44 which I wouldn't recommend tobanyone.

I said in my post "The Win 10 start menu" not the OS.

The menu catered to tablets, touchscreen laptops, hence the reason why it looks like that with it's big bulky tiles and easy touchscreen finger browsing.

I know. Windows 10 start menu was designed to win back those users who missed the traditional start menu.
The Tiled option could be argued to reduce clutter on the panel. At least it didn't fill the screen with tiles making it harder to get to the traditional desktop, you had to finf a tiny ico in Windows 8 to get to the desktop.

@Aravisian, you are correct. :grin:
