Audio: dummy output

Hello Fellows,

I'm new on Linux and would like to see if someone could help me to fix this:
Audio and Mic are not being detected, unless I connect with some bt device, which is working very fine.

Here are some useful infos about my hardware:

You can take a look at this helpsite at "dummy output"

So this is a Chromebook? Zorin lite would probably be better for you.

Welcome to the Forum!

An Advice first: It would be nice when You could set up in Your Forum Profile what Zorin Version You use. I see because of Your Output that it is the Gnome Version. But it would be nice for a better Detection.

Now to Your Issue:

  1. Did You try it with a Reboot? Maybe after rebooting Your Speakers and Mic are detected.
  2. If this is a fresh Install, did You already update Your System?
  3. I see that You are on Wayland. You could try it with switching to Xorg. To do that, go to the Login Screen (not the Lock Screen). Simply reboot for that. When You are on the Login Screen, click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in and try if Your Audio Stuff works.
  4. Did You take a Look in the ''Additional Drivers Tab'' in Software & Updates if there is a Driver offered?
  5. Did You tried Pulse Audio Volume Control? You can install it with the Terminal Command sudo apt install pavucontrol and after the Installation take a Look in the Output, Input and configuration tab of it.

I agree with what has been said, Chromebooks are low spec machines, and will do better with Zorin OS Lite. Here's the link to the download.

Sound issues with Chromebooks do seems common.

I did a websearch using: "Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver Processor High Definition Audio driver: sof-audio-pci-intel-apl bus-ID: 00:0e.0 chip-ID: 8086:3198 dummy output Ubuntu 22.04"

Several hits from that, but see little success in solving.

Some opinions that "no sound" could be due to kernel regression, so maybe a different kernel may support that device.

Only "solved" item I found was on Arch forum, so I don't know if that is applicable here on ZorinOS/Ubuntu. Here is the link anyhow: [SOLVED] Intel Celeron/Pentium Silver- no HDMI sound output option / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums

If you boot your installation USB using "Try Zorin", does sound work then?
(I would guess not, but worth a try)

You could always purchase a (linux compatible) USB soundcard as a workround.

You could try to install ubuntu 25.04 or one of the mentioned distributions at github and then try it with this script:
