I am using an MSi laptop with Zorin os 18 and one day the sound just stopped working I’ve looked on all the chat gpt and nothing has helped can someone help me?
Go in BIOS and disable Secure boot
Can you provide more infos about your system ?
Do you have dual boot with Windows ? if yes go to power management and disable Fast Boot

If there was a kernel update you can try to go back to an older kernel. During boot select "Advanced options for Zorin" in grub menu and select an older kernel to boot from and test if the sound works again. If the grub menu isn't displayed press continuosly esc (or left shift key if you have a legacy BIOS).

This is my laptop : msi Thin Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD 144Hz, Intel i5-13420H, RTX 3050, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Windows 11 Home
I installed Zorin is 18 only so I took windows 11 out

So, the Sound worked first and then suddenly stopped to work? Did You received any Updates before that happened? Did You tried Pulse Audio Volume Control? It is a Tool for set up Audio Output and Input. You can install it with the Terminal Command sudo apt install pavucontrol
When installed, check the Configuration and Output Tab's for Audio Profiles and Options. You can try a bit with the offered Options.
I’ve tried all of this and so far it dosent work
I also have an MSI noteboot, GE-76 user here...
Once a day, my system will change the sound output to Speakers for reasons unknown, oddly enough, I can still hear the sound come through my headphones for some reasons. Anyways, what I actually use now days, is an external USB S.M.S.L M200 DAC, and I use digital stereo for my output through it. Using Pulse Audio, make sure the output is selected properly, for what you are using. Also in Pulse Audio, make sure the method making the sound in the OS, is not muted, and that your volume is set to at lest 50%.
Notice I have all sound channels muted, except what I use.

si este problema yo lo resolvi ayer bueno he batallado tanto que alfinal si logre restaurar pero no del todo cada renincio deja de funcionar se preve que algo ha roto en el kernel de 0.23 y actualizaron al 0.29 generic o algo asi y eso Jodio digamos todo ami me estropea el WIFI 7 Be6500 y el proprio audio y esperate como el audio se estropeo tambien estropeo en gran medida el OBS STUDIO y tuve que reacer todo y con ayuda de KIMI AI inteligencia artificial dile esto a KIM mira KIM me pasa esto y esto por favor como soluciono pero paso a paso y que me des un comando y te respondo y tu le envias la respuesta del terminal el te envia otro comando y tu le envias la respuesta de dicha terminal hasta restaurar el sonido asi lo hice yo. y si se ve que tocando mas cosas empeora la actualizacion no se que hacen esos de los progrmadores se invnetan nombres antes tenia SOUND PULSE luego ALSA SOUND y ahora con la actualizacion me sale OUTPUT sound modelo del sonido y era un encordio re hacer todo me fastidiaba..
y regrese con KIM AI desde google..
Same happened to me some days ago on my MSI Cyborg 15 A12V laptop. I also used chatgpt/gemini with 1000 commands using alsamixer, pavucontrol, speaker-test, amixer, wireplumber, arecord, pactl, lsmod, modprobe settings, speaker-test, update-initramfs... but nothing helped. I also switched between Wayland and X11 (from login screen), used older kernel (using shift button while restarting to open that screen), used oem kernel, disabled both fast boot and secure boot, even tried with live zorin/linux mint.. os usb to make sure if it's related to zorin or not. Even on live session it wasn't working so I suspect pc itself but weirdly pavucontrol and alsamixer shows everything as okay. (Note that when I connect with my headphones, they work fine. Is it the same case for you?)
