Backups "Failed with an unknown error"

I've been using Zorin 17.3 (dual boot with Win 11, which I never use) for nine months with no issues. I back up every day, and I do it manually. Several months ago, I started receiving the error that Backups "Failed with an unknown error". The failure is occasional, maybe once or twice per week and occurs at random. I back up to a partition on an external HDD (one partition for Backups and one partition for Timeshift) - there is plenty of room remaining on both partitions. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks in advance for your input!

Run sudo fsck /dev/sdX in the terminal and ensure sufficient kernel privileges to access the external hard drive.

Thanks for the info. I tried that and the results come back that the disk is mounted, and then the next line is "e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting."
