I tried switching to Linux Mint and it worked, I don't know how. Maybe I had fast start-up enabled before I installed Zorin 18 dual-boot?? But I disabled it after that but still the same thing.
Now that you are in recovery mode, select the network option first to get your internet up and running - you will need it to grab the drivers. Once that is done, drop into the root shell. Your best bet is to nuking the old drivers entirely with sudo apt purge nvidia* and then let the system grab the stable ones by running sudo ubuntu-drivers install. After that, just type reboot and see if you get your desktop back.
