Blurry screen after login

I was attempting to switch my keyboard between two languages, and the system froze. When I rebooted, I could get to the login screen but after inputting my password I just get a blurry screen. I;ve found some similar-sounding problems here in the help forum, but nothing has worked on my system (Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3). The issue has persisted for over a week with countless restarts and attempts to troubleshoot. Because I still see the blurred screen after login it seems like OS is still usable, so I would like to avoid a complete reinstall if at all possible.

I can get to the recovery menu and have tried going through the various options there, as well as reinstalling the OS through a root shell prompt.

Any thoughts on whether this problem is recoverable?

I can get to the recovery menu

From the recovery Prompt, can you run

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Setup your languages, following any prompts given. Then back out of Recovery Menu and proceed to normal boot to test if you can login and reach a usable desktop.
