Boot delay and i915 PHY timeout errors on Reeder E19

Hello Zorin OS Community,

I am using Zorin OS on my Reeder E19 laptop. Once the system boots to the desktop, everything runs very smoothly and perfectly. However, I am experiencing a noticeable freeze/delay during the initial boot sequence.

I checked my dmesg --level=err,warn logs to investigate the hang, and I noticed repetitive timeout errors related to the Intel i915 graphics driver, specifically: [drm] *ERROR* Port D/TC#1: timeout waiting for PHY ready drm_WARN_ON(tc->mode == TC_PORT_LEGACY)

I am sharing the relevant parts of my dmesg output below. Could you please advise if there is a specific kernel parameter (like a GRUB tweak) I can apply to bypass this timeout and speed up the boot? Or is this a known hardware/BIOS compatibility quirk that I should just safely ignore?

You can consider to Check for BIOS Updates.

Your dmesg logs show repeated timeout errors during Thunderbolt/Type-C (TC)

Disable TC Port Detection

  • Open terminal and enter:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
  • Find the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
  • Change it to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.enable_dc=2 i915.disable_power_well=0"
  • Save (Ctrl+X, then Y, then Enter)
  • Run:
sudo update-grub
  • Reboot and test

Is this a common/normal issue?
Will these errors cause any long-term damage to my laptop or hardware?
Should I try to fix it, or is it safe to ignore? If it’s better to fix it, should I go ahead with the BIOS update and the GRUB parameters (i915.enable_dc=2 i915.disable_power_well=0) you mentioned?Thanks in advance!

It will not damage your hardware, but it will stay a problem for Linux
If you want to stay like this what can I say ?
if you decide to fix it, try to see if you can update your bios, and if it fix errors don't touch Grub, but if it don't, apply change
