I'm confused, you said that you installed Brave from Ubuntu's website? I wouldn't recommend that and instead follow these instructions listed by the Brave team itself. This installs the .deb package and ensures auto updates:
For a long time I've been waiting for Vivaldi to do the right thing and become fully open source, but that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. That and the fact that it's still quite buggy and slow just makes it unsuitable for my needs. It's a shame, really, as I do like what they are trying to do and how they're the only ones at least trying to come up with innovative features. Sometimes they come up with strange and questionable ones, but that's part of the process.
I really prefer Brave over basically any other Chromium-based alternative, even more so than Ungoogled Chromium which I rarely use anymore, except for very specific situations.
