My Brother Model is MFC465CN circa 2009.
Is is not listed in the Brother Driver list for Linux.
I have read where most Brother Printers can be installed successfully.
I have succeeded in placing it into the Printer Directory, but the "Print Test Page" is Greyed out.
Open to opinions on whether my model can be made to work.

Looks like Brother provide linux drivers for this printer on their website. For Zorin, pick the .deb option.

Though the page design is not very user-friendly, as you have to click through several steps in a tiny scrollable element at the top of the page. Though that might be due to some of my content blockers ruining the layout ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also as I don't have this printer I can't test the drivers.
Yes you can download the drivers from here:
You do not need the driver install tool.
Download all the 64-bit packages for the printer and scanner.
Before you install the printer driver, please be sure to follow my advice on page 203 of the Unofficial Manual for Zorin 18 Core, just the first two terminal commands relating to 'cups-browsed':
Once you have carried out those commands in the terminal, you need to install Gdebi, a Debian Package installer, by entering the commands:
sudo apt install update
then
sudo apt install gdebi
Once installed, launch it, select 'File | Open' and navigate to the first .deb package you have downloaded.
Then click on the install button, whereupon you will be prompted to enter your login password in order to elevate you to 'root' (a bit like 'Run as ...' Administrator in that other OS).
Repeat this for each of the remaining .deb packages.
Lastly, follow my guide on how to install printers successfully, starting with the 3rd and 4th terminal commands on page 203 of the manual. The example I provided relates to Canon, but the same applies to Brother.
In respect of the Scanner element of your all-in-one when you open Document Scanner you need to expand the discovered scanner descriptor/name as it will actually indicate the printer driver - click on the down arrow to choose the driver with eSCL in it - this is what is required for the scanner to work with Document Scanner.

I am honored to get a reply from the "King" of Brother Printer issues.
Based on your comprehensive instructions it seems probable that I can get this done.
You are dealing with an 88 year old Newbie, because my Windows 7 Firefox Browser, 10 years old, is being rejected, by now, 2 Websites for Security reasons and I am using Zorin as an up to date state of the art Browser as acceptable to all Websites.
This is probably a stupid question, but I have to ask. You reference Zorin Core 18 and I have Zorin Lite 17.2, so I assume that will work for me. Please confirm.
I did successfully accomplish the 7 hour time change from UTC to PDT, but that was just one Command.
This is a big challenge for me but I will give it the Old College Try.

It is an honour to help anyone on their GNU/Linux journey.
I should have checked your profile in that you are using Lite. I am afraid I never wrote a manual for Zorin Lite. I had started one but never finished it following my eldest ending up on life support at the time I started to write it but it was for an earlier version of Zorin, and before cups-browsed became an issue.
The commands given should still work for you, even though you are not using Core.
I would recommend you install Okular to read the Manual as it has a search function and of course usual magnification tools of keyboard commands of Ctrl+ + or the mousewheel.
Oh and not just Brother Printers (I don't actually own one).
In fact you have inspired me to do a video for you as I have done for others but I need to know if it is connected directly to the computer or via the Network.

Well just installed a VM of Zorin 17.2 Lite as a VM and one of the first things I had to correct was that awful shadow font on the desktop using this code:

I have installed Apper, removed Gnome Software from the Panel, and Added Apper to the Panel. Was interested to see that Apper on Zorin Lite is pickingu up system updates:
Had to remove as it does not work without sudo first. So best way to launch Apper is with the command:
sudo apper

Could you not use Menu Editor to prefix the existing shortcut's command with sudo?
Also, did you mean to post it in this thread? You haven't mentioned printers at all...

Just leading up to the video with som accessibility settings.
A QTVI teacher told me the best background for low vision users is Lilac, and no shadows on fonts. A pity Zorin has shadow on the windows too.
Oh and a maximum font size of 15 pts for the Menu fonts etc and 55 pts for panel height.

As Far as Computer or Network, unclear but I will give you the following.
I have an Hp Desktop Computer, circa 2014, 64 bit.
I now have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Zorin Lite 17.2.
My printer is connected via a USB cord to the Desktop.
You seem to going Gangbusters by Leaps and Bounds so I am not sure when I am supposed to get back in.

Hi @brianpeck I am just rendering the video which I will upload to Vimeo and I will post the link here as soon as it is done. I installed the driver for usb first, the one named LPR, and the cups one second for Network connection.

Nice install video @swarfendor437 ya made that fairly simple
So I have mixed results, probably because I had to run a Terminal twice, namely sudo system-config-printer.
Good news is that I have successfully printed a Test page as well as another Document.
I did install the 2 Scanner downloads, but my scan effort from the printer button produced nothing. However I assume that I can scan on Windows 7.
So the Printer Directory has 3 items instead of 2.
I have Brother MFC-465CN as the Default, followed by Brother MFC-465CN-2 followed by MFC(no Brother) -465CN. This 3rd item is the one that enables me to print.
Clearly one has to be deleted, probably -2, undoubtedly caused by me. However this one includes 193.168.50.101 although the Location is blank so it does not recognize my Desktop or Printer.
So even if we delete -2 and it does not print, I have confidence that you can correct this.

Hi, I should have explained in the description that you would need to enter your own IP address that the Printer uses if it is networked either via ethernet or via wifi.
You can safely delete that one.
Notice the network printer icon shows a printer with multiple trays - the small icon that looks just like a printer with ordinary output tray is your local printer.
When I installed the drivers on my VM of Zorin 17.2 Lite I did not get multiple entries suggesting that the cups-browsed issue only relates to Zorin 18 releases.

Good afternoon. Fellow Zorin OS newbie here -- coming from Windows 11 at work, and Mac OS 26 Tahoe at home -- with same issue, although on a somewhat different Brother model: MFC-J470DW.
I've read through this thread with interest, but sadly, I find both this video and your previous ones on this topic somewhat lacking for want of voiceover narration. However, I will view them again and hopefully be able to make some sense of them regardless.
That said, for what it's worth, the drivers for my printer are now 13 years old, and on our Mac we recently received notification that the Brother drivers will no longer function after the upcoming upgrade to Mac OS 27, which will end support for Intel-based drivers. So we're going to need a new printer anyway. So, if I can't get this to work on this machine, I can just swap PDF files over to our Mac via e-mail or thumb drive and print them from there. Hopefully, once we have a new printer (probably going to go with an Epson tank system), I'll be able to get Liinux-compatible drivers for that.

as you will suffer from the cups-browsed issue. You will need to install 'system-config-printer' as for some reason, Team Zorin removed it in 18 Core.

@JerryMacGP Well i am currently rendering the video for you. It was more problematical than @brianpeck 's drivers. I had to use the dpkg instructions to install both the 64-bit lpr and cupswrapper drivers, as you will see in the video. What did surprise me was that it did work.
If you do decide to go ahead with purchasing an Epson Printer, just be sure you use a Chromium based browser to download the drivers. A few months ago I created a snapshot for a client of Q4OS and included their Epson drivers in the snapshot, all that was needed was the correct IP address of the network printer. When downloading in Zen Browser and Firefox the driver did not download at all, instead it splattered the gobbledy-geek content of the driver in the browser prior to me making the snapshot - and the snapshot was created inside a VM to boot!
