It should be in the App Menu. The menu has a search function, so typing in qt will bring it up, or you can narrow it all the way to qt5ct
Click to launch then move to the Fonts Tab.
My query about a tutorial or other docs was a bit premature, after posting that I walked away from my computer and thought, "a general search qt5ct would probably bring it up"...
Yes, I found it in the menu, but upon opening it I got an error message at top page, "The application is not configured correctly"; is this because I havn't set any values? Or is there a glitch with the install?
qt5 presents like kalarm; the interface font appears very teeny-tiny. (extremely small!)
Yes, i have experienced this, too...
This is an old error. What I suspect is happening is that there is an environment variable specifying gtk2 instead of qt5ct
I cannot remember which file name or location has it... For me - this is easy. Since I use Nemo File Manager which includes Content Search built right in.
So we must use the terminal. Run
sudo grep -r 'QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2' /etc/
Please relay what that shows.
To fix it, we must elevate to root.
Launch nautilus to Root:
nautilus admin:///
Then navigate to the path we uncover above and open that file to make the correction.
If I have understood it correctly from Aravisian's advice, do the following:
Elevate to root with
pkexec thunar
and enter your password. This will open your filemanager with sudo rights. I changed the command, because in Zorin lite thunar is the default file manager.
Then go to
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/56-zorin-os-lite-session,
right click on it >open with texteditor
and change 'gtk2' into 'qt5ct' in line
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct
Save the file.
Logout and login again.
Forpli, thank you for chiming in, it's good to hear from you again... Aravisian's advise to elevate the root was by launching nautilus admin:///, and you are suggesting pkexec thunar; I assume these both launch a similar file system for editing?
I assume pkexec thunar is the file manager for Zorin Lite, whereas nautilus admin:/// is the file manger for a different version of Zorin (core 18?); I don't want to proceed with the edit until I'm sure you and Aravisian are on the same page of understanding on how to achieve the desired edit.
Yes, nautilus is the default filemanager of Zorin Core and thunar is the default filemanager of Zorin lite. So when you have not installed nautilus, the nautilus admin:/// command won't work.
Pkexec is needed to launch thunar with sudo rights.
You can proceed if you wish or wait. Aravisian was probably just in a hurry, and most users have Zorin Core and Nautilus, so it's easy to overlook when a question relates to Zorin Lite. I've never made this change before, so I'm not entirely sure what are the effects, but nothing bad can happen. You can reset the file to its original state if it doesn't do what you want. It's best to copy the file before editing and rename it by adding .bak at the end of the filename.
@Novice There is opportunity for confusion here.
This thread refers to Zorin Lite. i.e. Thunar file manager.
Your profile state "Core" i.e. Nautilus file manager.
I am guessing @Aravisian looked at your profile (as a lot of us do), seen "Core" and went with Nautilus, wheras @Forpli read the OP, seen "Lite" and went with Thunar.
If you are planning to stick to Lite, please update your profile to show "Lite".
If you are using both "Core" and "Lite", include both in your profile. That way we ask you which one applies.
Yes, I had defaulted to the Core version and its file manager.
@Forpli was fast and observant.
Post number 25 is accurate and safe.
Zabadabadoo - Thank you for the heads up, much appreciated; I just updated my profile to reflect my current and only OS.
Forpli - I have been working with your command instructions (trial/error); I am not sure where to go once I am in the Thunar File System (filemanager)... Perhaps I'm not doing it right ???
There are two categories listed in filemanager, Places (root) and Devices (file system); when I search for /etc/X11/Xsession.d/56-zorin-os-lite-session, the root category does not come up with any files (zero), and the file system category comes up with many different folders - How do I proceed? Where do I go to find the file I need to edit? (open texteditor w/ right click)
On the ToolBar - hit the Up Arrow button two or three times to reach Root.
From there, double click the folder named etc then the x11 folder, following the tree, double click xsession.d and then right click on 56-zorin-os-lite-session and select to open with Text Editor (Or Mousepad...)
Success! Thank you Aravisian, and thank you Forpli, the error message no longer appears on my Qt5 Configuration Tool; now I can start using it to modify the size of my interface font...
As far as my alarm-clock issue, I may revisit the "snooze" issue at some point by installing an earlier version of the alarm-clock app; right now my alarms work well with the alarm-clock app, and if I need a snooze I set a timer in the default clocks app. (thank you!)
