Walked into a weird issue today. I was on a conference call on Google Meet today and was unable to get background effects (blur, images) to work. The preview screen would simply white out. After some trial and error I discovered it only does that when logged in with Wayland. X11 has no problem, everything works fine. I do have a considerably older Nvidia card (GTX 950, stop laughing, I'm frugal). I'm wondering if anyone with a more recent card has the same issue, or if it's just purely a Wayland issue with Nvidia drivers in general. Note: I have the most recent proprietary Nvidia driver (580) installed.
No shame in an older GPU, my friend. If it works for you and does what it needs to do, then more power to you. Don't always have to feel the need to buy the newest thing if it doesn't better things for you in a meaningful way.
As for the Wayland issue... honestly I would stick with X. It's no secret that Wayland has a plethora of issues. For instance, I have no idea what the issue would be causing what you're describing, but if X solves the problem, I'd say that's the simplest thing to go to. I have so many issues on Wayland on Zorin 18, more than I ever did on Zorin 17, so quite frankly I've just given up on it.
With a newer Desktop Version with better Wayland Support, it might work. But when Nvidia+X11 works for You, simply use that.
