Hello everyone, at the University where I work I’m refurbishing some old Intel Core i3 computers by installing Zorin Core 18 on them. My question is this: is it possible to animate the cursor when launching an application from the Desktop?
At the moment, when I double‑click an icon, the system seems unresponsive, so the user may think it’s frozen — but after a few seconds the application eventually appears.
I may be wrong but on Windows OS there's an animation when the app is launching
I found this thread. You don’t need to install gnome-tweaks in Zorin 18 to select a cursor theme. You can do this in Zorin appearance > theme.
It sounds as it is depending on the cusor theme you use. You could try it with another cursor theme. I myself have set "Bibata modern ice" as custom cursor theme, and there the cursor has another look when loading an app launcher from desktop so that it is clear that the app is loading.
Just for example. Bibata modern ice is a white cursor, the black variant is called Bibata modern classic.
On my Zorin 17 Lite system the default Adwaita cursor or whiteglass cursor are animated when loading apps.
Edit: Hm, in Zorin 18 Core the same ones are not animated...

The animation exist but you will only see it if your cursor stay over the icon app you launched, because Zorin free the cursor for other actions...
I tried to install a custom cursor theme as per Zorin Appearance (Bibata Modern Ice) but didn't change anything, maybe it's something related to some other setting, performance or animations maybe? But I really don't know what to do
Sorry, I haven't tested it in gnome yet. Please excuse the incorrect information. It appears that this does not work with desktop launchers in newer versions of GNOME.

I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to get the desktop icons to appear in Zorin 18.1 Core either. I've tried various desktop icon extensions for GNOME and moved the cursor theme to /usr/share/icons, tried Wayland and Xorg, but nothing worked. I tested it with LibreWriter, and its .desktop file has StartupNotify=true, so that's not the cause. When the app is launched from the taskbar, a loading circle appears, but not when it is launched from desktop icon.

Do you really have a cursor animation when you launch apps from their desktop icons (and not from the taskbar)? I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior. Can you please say me how you made that?
Perhaps another reason to move to Plasma which has bouncing animated cursors not dependent on hovering over an icon launch.
