Please show the file/launcher icons which are added to the desktop via Zorin Appearance in the desktop folder and make it possible that they can be removed with the context menu or by selecting and pressing key del.
When I was a new user, it was very irritating to me that I had stuff on the desktop which was not shown in my user's desktop folder and from time to time users ask how to get rid of these icons.
The problem does exist in Zorin Lite, too. There it is not only the Zorin Appearance app which is affected but the normal settings app, too, where you can enable the desktop icons at category desktop.
Here is a structured list that covers the XFCE4 specific icons as the names were changed in the 4.16 migration. But you might be able to reference it for changing icons, too.
I had saved this in a file when I was making icon sets.

Having your preferred icon in your ~.icons/(Icon-Theme) directory with the proper name will tell the system to use that icon, instead of the default icon.
Yes, it is the same with DING. Today I helped a user to remove the icon:
It is not a problem of the icon itself. I suspect a special gnome thing because desktop icons are a gnome extension. It are no symlinks, but something else.
