Did anyone else have a problem after updates installed yesterday?

I allowed the software updater to install some changes yesterday.

First thing I noticed was that my printers all went away and settings said I had no printer service. HPlip wouldn't even allow me to "add" my existing printer though it did find it. A message about python not responding.

Then when I rebooted I got into an "emergency mode" that I eventually solved by going into recovery mode and two reboots later things seemed to return to normal including the printers.

I know this has happened before but not for many months and it wasn't kernel related because I always use the saved 6.8 kernel.

Hello I had problem this morning too, could you give me in terminal the output of

dpkg -V libssl3t64

Maybe try it with unplug the Printer and then plug it in again.

Ya i had another error with firefox clicked to open it screen went black with the left screen full of error codes had to power off to even restart not sure what happened..isnt doing that on other OS i been testing..which i am currenty logged into...lol that was only trouble i am having zorin OS 18.1 has been working fine till a few weeks ago no biggy

No output and no output if I include sudo either

That is my go to printer not responding solution. It had no effect. AS noted, I do have the printers back now.

One thing that was different this update: after it installed the updates, it came up with a new dialog box to remove some stuff it thought was unneeded. That usually doesn't happen and I did not pay much attention to what was on the list because I have come to trust the software updater tool. Maybe something that really was needed got removed and when I tried recovery mode it got put back. The only thing of note from the recovery mode diagnostics was a mounting error mnt - sdb1.mnt mnt/sdb1 Sdb1 is my secondary data partition so should not have prevented Zorin loading because Zorin is on my nvme disk

This last update is making me wish I hadn't installed Zorin at all...... My whole system feels just a bit laggy now and I am unable to play any of my steam games for various reasons (I only have 3 and they aren't huge games) - 1 will launch but not load; 1 will launch and load but won't open most save files and the ones that do open run stupidly slow; and the last one won't load in the graphics, like it's just "hit boxes" where the images should be (audio loads tho).

Only thing I've noticed so far.

That sounds harrowing. Can you start at thread that includes listing your GPU Graphics:

sudo lshw -C video

and see if we can reduce that headache a bit...

okay so, I am a complete Linux noob.
I typed that into the terminal and it said "command not found" ... is there something I'm supposed to be typing in before that? (Also, I will start that new thread.)

PS - ty for having mercy on me bc yeah... these games are one of the few things keeping me sane atm

There came a Kernel Update. Maybe go back to the older Version and check if it runs well again.

Yes, I got an error because VirtualBox was installed... I removed Virtual Box and the update to Kernel 7.0.0-28 went thru and booted up fine but the nvidia drivers were absent...

I tried to re-install the Nvidia drivers from Zorins "Software & Updates" but that errored out...

I ended up rolling back with Time-shift until and setting updates to "Security Only" until this new kernel 7.0.0-XX can be sorted out...

I remember reading somewhere on Nvidia's driver page for Linux that there was an driver update NVIDIA 595.58.03 driver version officially fixed compiling compatibility out of the box for stable Linux kernel version 7.0.

BUT I'm on the 580 Branch... I will need to research this further and try upgrading to Nvidia Driver Version 595.58.03 from the 595 Branch, or maybe 580.159.04 from the 580 Branch (I'm on 580.159.03) before turning back on "ALL Updates" from "Security Only" Updates.
