Can please provide some more informations what you are trying to install? Is it an app in the software store or a windows app, or have you downloaded it from somewhere else?

Your initial Sentence sounds like there is something missing before that. Did You miss to paste something?
OK, all hardware drivers are embedded in the Linux kernel. We need to know if you are trying to get a standalone flatbed scanner or an All-in-One scanner/printer working. Some manufacturers provide Linux kernel drivers some don't.
Sometimes Document Scanner does not work well as another application, such as Skanlite.
Type the word Terminal in the search bar of the menu, then press Enter key and a Terminal will launch.
Copy and paste using the 'copy to clipboard' icon at the far right of this command, and in terminal right-click and select paste:
sudo apt install skanlite
Now press Enter.
You will need to enter your login password to elevate you to 'root' (administrator) to install the skanlite application.

Did you try it with the preinstalled document-scanner (simple-scan)?
I have an older scanner a U650 and i use xsane i simply plug in scanner then open xsane it looks for scanner finds it then i can scan in docs without a watermark
