If this happened during Zorin 18 installation, try the following

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Try it with an offline install. Don't connect to internet and don't install updates, graphics and other drivers and third party software during installation. You can do this afterwards. When Zorin is installed update your system and then go to Software&Updates > Additional drivers to select and install the nvidia driver and other drivers if there are offered ones.
