Today I found a nice menu which I have never seen before in XFCE. It appears when you right-click on the desktop and all desktop icons are disabled and at tab menu in desktop settings "right-click shows app menu" is enabled. Since I have seen the right-click desktop function in Enlightenment and Moksha, I missed it. So I'm really surprised that there is also a similar function in XFCE.
How can I edit this menu to show things I like and in a specific order? Is there a gui program to do it? Or do I need to edit a file? Is it the file
/etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu?
The file looks a bit complicated.
This is not an application, but part of XFCE desktop. It calls on XDG the same way that the application menu does. It just displays that information in the context menu.
App menus follow the /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu specs.
For GUI control, you can use MenuLibre or Alacarte.
Or, you can create a "menus" Directory in ~/.config and copy /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu there and modify it at will - though the changes will reflect in all app menus.
It's a shame that this affects the Start menu. I was actually hoping to change the bottom section - for example, remove the Email program and the "About XFCE" option, and rename the "internet navigator".
I hoped that it would be possible to add a navigate entry which shows a menu-based cascading list of the directory hierarchy and where you can navigate very fast through the directories and folders without opening the file manager. Enlightenment Desktop has that function:
You can remove launchers you do not want from ~/.config/xfce4/panel/.
This can be done from its .desktop file in /usr/sahre/applications or /.local/share/applications
I know XFCE panel used to have a plugin that allowed moving through folders without opening the File Manager, but I have not used that plugin in years...

I tested the places plugin, but it offers not what I mean. When you click on filesystem there, thunar is opened. You can't navigate to subfolders as in the screenshot of Enlightenment above.
I looked for Internet navigator .desktop files, but there is no one, only brave with its real name. I also don't have the category "internet navigator" in the start menu.
Look in the Brave Browser .dekstop file and you should see: "GenericName=*"
I may be thinking of "Directory Menu plugin"... It's been a while.
With API changes made in XFCE, trying to get it to meet the demands of GTK, csd, Wayland... Many Plugins were dropped.
The directory menu plugin offers this function, thank you! It is not as comfortable to use (often too slow scrolling, in my test it was not faster than with thunar), but I'll give it a try.
Brave has as generic name "Web browser", maybe this makes the translation internet navigator. But in start menu the category is named just "internet" which I prefer.
I think when I remove the launchers from ~/.config/xfce4/panel/ I'll loose my starters on the taskbar. I want to keep them.
Now I found a solution for the internet navigator: I had to change the generic name for the German translation in xfce4-web-browser.desktop file. It was set to Internetnavigator.
