I just started installing zorin18 as a first time linux user, and I just did the reboot. Once it was online again, it entered this endless loop of EXT4-fs. The clock has gone over 1000 seconds, and now I’m worrying that I screwed up the installation somewhere, because all I’m seeing is this in the attached photo. Did I do something wrong? Was there something wrong with the flash?
For extra notes, I can not leave this screen. If I reboot my PC, it returns to doing this exact scenario.
Hi and welcome.
Firstly did you check the integrity of the downloaded .iso before installing?
What USB creation tool did you use for the installation?
I may have to check the integrity; but I used balenaEtcher to make the flash of the ISO, the one directly from the install guide.
Oh dear! I and many regulars on here have a high disregard for Balena Etcher which has been known to cause issues and there have been requests made on here for the team to suggest alternative tools. Balena Etcher is only really of any use for Mac owners. Most of the forum users recommend Rufus. I personally prefer Ventoy.
Yes, the install is corrupted.
Since you Just Installed, I's probably not a big deal.
I would just wipe and reinstall.
But I highly suggest running a S.M.A.R.T (Disk test) on the drive, to check if the drive itself has too many faulty sectors or bad blocks and is the cause.
Also, be sure to allocate a bare minimum of 64 gigs to Root - since it needs room to grow.
I used the QuickHash app from the guide, and the hash returned was the correct one, so the ISO was all okay, and we'll see how things will go when I rerun the flash with Rufus. I'm not looking forward to pulling the drive if that's the issue with it.
Check if using EFI or Legacy BIOS on your machine. Set Rufus to GPT or MBR accordingly when creating your Zorin USB.
Are you intending to replace Windows (or another OS) with Zorin, or run Zorin alongside Wndows?
I'm installing Zorin on a blank drive to move away from Windows.
Yeah, the drive I was using is in no good condition for a main internal. Luckily I did find another drive I can use. Install quality TBD.
It was the drive at fault. With a new drive and ISO flash used with Rufus, it’s working all good now. Thank you so much
