I have a person who wants to access and download their OneDrive files post Zorin18 install [alone]. Are there any red flags to setting this up and touching with MS again?
No red flags that I've experienced. I use the Abraunegg client for a “proper” OneDrive sync rather than the simple online browsing built in to Gnome's nautilus file manager. Although it is not available in Zorin OS's standard software repositories or via the graphical Software app, you can get it from the official OpenSUSE Build Service repository. It works flawlessly for me.

So MS doesn't get to spy on anything else while connected to OneDrive?
Sure they will continue to spy your OneDrive as the always do, but not your computer
