Failed to start gdm.service- GNOME display manager

I have been using zorin on my desktop pc a little more then 5 months now. Out of the blue yesterday when i tried to boot the pc will not go to login screen and lands on
Failed to start gdm.service- GNOME display manager
I cant enter anything.

Do you get a GRUB menu at boot time or is it just the pulsating 'Z' and the Zorin logo?

Is your drive out of space? You could boot from a Zorin live USB drive (Try Zorin mode) and then launch the app "baobab" (disk usage analyzer) to see how much space is on the drive and if maybe logs have filled it.

I cant seem to get into the boot menu I press fn + f11 but that does not work. To get into the grub menu I press ctrl+alt+f2 which leads to login but when I enter the correct username and password it says incorrect login. So I am not sure what to do.

the incorrect login on the tty is a bit odd, in my experience thats usually keyboard layout getting picked wrong on the console so symbols in the password land somewhere else. if your password has any symbols maybe try typing it into the username field first just to see what characters actually come out. also the tty wants your short username, not the display name you see on the login screen.

otherwise id probably just boot a live usb and chroot in, then look at journalctl -b -1 -u gdm and /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see why it dies. from there reinstalling gdm3 or the gpu driver is easy enough, and if the disk got full like was mentioned above gdm failing makes sense too.

When you press those keys, that is a tty console you bring up, not GRUB.

If you have an EFI installation keep repeatedly pressing Esc at power on time until GRUB appears, if mbr, keep pressing the left Shift key at power on time.
