Always, when my screen turns off when I leave the PC, when I move the mouse to return the screen, the files icon in the taskbar shows 2 notifications. But there's nothing. I click to open, and the notification disappears.
Is it a bug?
Did You checked the Notifications Area? Click on Date/Clock for this.

I didn't check it. Next time it occurs, I will check the Notifications Area and update here.

I discovered this when running the VM of Zorin 18 Core r.3. I think it is to do with any file creation, tarball extraction. Once you bring focus back to Files the 'notifications' will disappear.

And any other file operations bring up notifications too (temporary ones as far as i have come across). If it's permanent, then it would again be shown in the notifications area.

Question answered.
The badge was showing the number of notifications.
There were two notifications about a drive being mounted. After checking these notifications, the badge didn't appear anymore.
