I remember reading that in GNOME, file manager and file picker were separate, but now in newer versions of GNOME that's been fixed, and file manager is also used as a file picker, making the experience a lot better and more consistent. I hope we can have this in Zorin 18 and also have the issues of inconsistent folder colors fixed.
That is right. Here on Zorin 17 with Gnome 43 as Base the file Manager Nautilus and the File Picker are seperated. From Gnome 47 this changed; there is Nautilus File Manager and File Picker. But if we will have this on Zorin 18 will depend what Gnome Version will be used.
Thank you for the info, I was about to check in which version they fixed it. Do we have a probable guess which GNOME version Zorin 18 will ship with? I read somewhere maybe 46 or 47.
There is no final Info for that. Because Zorin 18 will be based on Ubuntu 24.04, it should be at least Gnome 46. Depending on what the Developers decide, they could go the same Way like on Zorin 17 and offer a higher Gnome Version. Zorin 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04 and that Base uses Gnome 42 not 43. So, this is all until now not clear what will come. We have to wait for the official Announcement.
Are you sure about that? My understanding is that some of the most requested features have been developed to better integrate the file picker with the file manager, but they are still separate components.
Yeah, that's what I understood. It doesn't say they are the same, it's just more integrated with the file manager. The question is, will be able to interoperate with extensions like folder-color?
