YES, I do want to boot 17.3 and I sure hope my safety net is present in case I need them when I get brave enough to try it.
Do you have your copy of the Zorin OS 17.3 Pro ISO? I just checked, and I do not see it available for purchase on the Zorin website. Only 18 Pro. If you do have your copy, great. Do you have the ISO properly written to an USB stick?
EDIT: Sorry if this has already been covered, but this thread has over 80 posts already, and I do not want to wade through everything. I am trying to "reset" the conversation here so we can help you more quickly. (Thanks.)
Yes I purchased Zorin 17.3 PRO and downloaded from website.. it was checked via the checksum... I made 3 USB disks using a fresh download of balena etcher.
This morning I have tried all 3 USB's in all 8 USB ports... Bootable is selected in the Bios and nothing happened... I created another new USB using Rufus and again tried all 8 USB ports and nothing happens.
Obviously this computer is not going to use usb as a bootable item.
How can I get a LIVE BOOTABLE DVD for Zorin 17.3 PRO ???
Do you, by any chance, know your motherboard make and model? Thanks.
If you have a dvdburner, you can use your Burn software the same way.
If the USB Stick size was too small for Pro, then a DVD might be the fitting choice.

The usb is 256GB... which I am considering formatting it to exfat for compatability issues. I am however confused about what a proper file allocation size would be... what would you recommend? It will only be used for installation... which leaves me wondering how high can I go???
I already formatted a new 256GB to exfat today but was afraid to change the previous allocation size of 4096... so I haven't gone further with it yet.
I now believe that when I was formatting the previous usb's to fat 32 and truly
did believe that they were then FAT 32... that they actually were not!
That pc does have a DVD in it but I have never used it and don't comprehend what size or kind of DVD I will need to acquire to try installing that way.
Zorin 17.3 PRO is over 7.5GB.. and I really don't understand the specs on that DVD because I have never tried to use it.
I recommend a minimum of 80 gigs or so, to allow plenty of room for root to grow and accrue logs.
I do not know if you would need 176 or so gigs as storage space separated, you could allocate the whole drive.
Yes, this should be checked. Use exFAT, not FAT32
I believe DVD's are also size limited and Pro is likely too large.
Thanks for the 80GB!
I will try again tomorrow. My brain is totally fried right now!
I should've caught on to the FAT32 a lot quicker!
Yes, this has a 4 gig size limit and Zorin OS Pro is larger - so it probably was not booting because the .iso never actually burned.
It ran out of room before completing.
@Aravisian the 256 Gb is the size of the USB, not the drive being installed to!
.
@Diana I think you would do better using Ventoy or gnome-multi-writer instead of Balena Etcher.
I have found and downloaded Ventoy and will hunt for gnome-multi-writer...
Question- can these be used on Windows and Zorin?
Ventoy is available on Windows. Gnome MultiWriter is available only on Linux.
Thank you for this. I looked up your computer. I was a bit surprised when you said "eMachines," because they haven't been around for ages. In any case, I am sorry to tell you that Zorin 17.3 will not run well on your PC. According to what I see online, the eMachines EL13006 has only 2 GB of RAM (or 1?) and a single-core AMD Athlon 2650e CPU. You honestly would be better off with Zorin OS Lite. If you are open to using other OSes, I recommend MX Linux XFCE. It is not only lightweight, but is more of a "complete" OS compared to say, Debian XFCE, and comes with a NVIDIA installer in the MX Tools section. I checked, and the Athlon CPU you have is 64-bit, so just download MX Linux 25.1 XFCE, put it on an USB, and install it. I personally use MX Linux XFCE, and even though I could still be using Debian XFCE, I switched because a lot of the things I had to do myself to make Debian XFCE work the way I wanted it to was already done in MX Linux by the developers. OK? Totally your choice. I mean, you could always still install Zorin OS Lite, but the Zorin Group has announced that they will stop the "Lite" version after they release Zorin OS 18 Lite (they will drop support in 2029, if I recall right). I hope all this is helpful.
Best wishes.
EDIT: Lubuntu could be a good option, too, if you still want Ubuntu.
EDIT # 2: I just checked, and see that Lubuntu offers a "minimal" installation option that takes out Snaps entirely. Snaps are no good for a computer like yours (or at all, period - I don't like them myself). Lubuntu's "minimal" install is more like a traditional .DEB setup, which is favorable to a PC like yours.
"...Indeed, expansion possibilities are near nil; all you can do is upgrade the memory to 4GB, and you have to throw out the existing 1GB modules to do so. "

Thank You for your knowledge and taking the time to teach me things that I didn't know about my computer's capabilities. It ran 15.3 PRO like a CHAMP so naturally I assumed it would do the same with 17.3 PRO. I will try to put the 17.3 Pro on a different computer.
I just went online to download the one you recommended but got confused so much showed up... would you be so kind to share a good link to the one you recommend. I love the emachine even though it has never been my main computer.. it was one of my toys that I played with other operating systems with. I have several computers that I can consider for the 17.3 PRO.
CLICK HERE to download MX Linux XFCE directly from SourceForge. I also recommend taking the time to learn how to configure/edit XFCE to your liking.
Good luck.
Thank You Very Much for the link!!! Downloaded it and the manual.
