TLP can help, but you also have other issues. I recommend installing TLP, but also think you need to check your Kernel.
uname -r
Quick refersher:
Is this the same computer?
It is possible that low fan speeds causing overheating can cause lag and freezes.
So addressing those first is the way to go.
Many BIOS settings also offer fan speed controls within the BIOS Settings which can be elevated to be permanently at maximum. Which I would do anyway, given the option, on a Notebook Computer.
I have noticed that we get a very large number of Spammers trying to push links to Lenovo products on this forum. And I do mean a lot.
This, of course, creates an opinion with me of that company.
I began looking into the company and came across this:
One thing to consider is checking if your make and model is subject to that extraneous software. It is within the realm of possibility that the extra added bits from Lenovo are causing your frustration and headaches.
No @swarfendor437 because my laptop came with 64bit windows 11 and i forcefully installed Linux even no where it is said it supports Linux. I brought it in emergency because my main laptop screen was broken and I needed a laptop urgently to work. I never expected Linux will give such problems because I am pro advertiser of Linux and force my friends to use it but after facing such issues, I quit!
And I do professional work like build web application software, client video editing, music videos, backend end software development, options trading so, I don't want to use 32-bit system nor I will do!
I need stable linux OS who works like Ubuntu (supreme driver support and rock stable) but looks like Zorin OS and beats the UI even windows 11!
I was looking at Q4OS recently after I had purchased a laptop from 2013 that only had 4GB ram and a tiny processor. I wanted a lightweight os that could comfortably run on 1GB ram so that my little laptop would seem like a BEAST. I was really leaning toward Q4OS with Trinity (64-bit) as my top choice with antiX as a strong contender. One thing that fascinated me about the Q4OS project was the option to install right into Windows, without modifying your existing Windows system. So innovative. However a couple points about antiX pushed it into first place as the honorable first trial os for my new elderly laptop.
But for the @frustated-zorin I can understand your passion for Zorin, it is just a beautiful, tailored environment with all the luxuries and comforts. I hoping you can get the issues sorted out and enjoy your life again. I hate computer issues sooo much, because they trigger rage into me too. Good luck friend.
in my huble opinion , i think it's time you might wanna take your lappy to a professional .
or just switch to ubuntu ,as you say it's rock solid ( not that Zorin isn't, but yea, here we are )
I think with only 1 Gb RAM I would have gone with 32-bit Q4OS Plasma.. I've used Antix primarily because it doesn't have systemd, but if you install KDE on Antix it pulls in elogind. You might want to give PCLinuxOS a run, but it does not wotk with a GT1030. It takes some getting used to but a lot lighter than Q4OS as it doesn't have Discover and all updates take place using Synaptic Package manager, no systemd and no elogind. Or perhaps Slitaz?
