Welcome to the forum!

There are some cases where the this can happen. Sometimes running the game in borderless windowed instead of exclusively full screen can address the issue. Just as an additional question, are you on X or Wayland for your windowing system? I would recommend switching to X if you're not already, but you can check from Settings -> About.

There are some times where just disabling the Steam overlay is always going to cause issues, and disabling that during that game may be the most simple, quickest answer. That's usually what I do, just because I can alt-tab to the steam windows separately and still get whatever notifications i might have gotten, just outside of the game.

Switching to X11 is recommended, especially for Nvidia GPU's. Also, I disabled the whole Steam chat BS. A guy kept sending me messages, causing my Subnautica to crash, the guy thought it was funny, when I reported what he caused, so I disabled all of it staying in offline mode.

I didn't disable regular Steam notifications though. The game your plyaing, might not play well with those notifications. Make sure you are also using Proton while playing that game. Proton usually comes with fixes, to improve compatibility, while no guarantee, but could help.

@applecheeks37 @StarTreker i already had it on

I'm confused by what "it" here in this context mean. You had X on, or you had steam notifications on?

sorry for not being clear, but I have X11 on and momentary disabled steam notification popups, as otherwise the latency would be still there

Is the lag present on every game, or is it specifically this one game? I might be a case where this specific game doesn't play well with the notifications that steam gives / the overlay.

I've got a couple games that don't like it, and I have it disabled for those specific games.

strangely enough it initially was only that game, but now it seems it fixed itself somehow
I did absolutely nothing but turn my notifications off and on again so that was that, thanks chat
