Glad I'm sticking with Zorin 16 Pro Gnome

Hey I ain't knocking 'em! I tweak music most of my life. Trying this and that, but I want some normalcy in things outside of that. Whatever "normalcy" means. Ha Ha

I'm in my 60's and while I'll still toy with the other distros out there, Zorin is home for me.

That's what separates Zorin and Linux from all others...the ability to be you. Our little family forum is a cut above. Having the chance to express and watch others
as they play too.
All the other forums are in disarray , making it tough to navigate and find answers. Not here use a search engine above and it locates in seconds.

Just do a search...they are there...and I'm not going to spend my night to show every single one

I understand perfectly what you're saying. It costs a lot of energy to put in those efforts. And sometimes one (hobby) is more than enough to keep you busy.
But it has a great effect on you, when you get the job done.

What also amazes me and I certainly like on this forum is that beside the tech knowledge and help they provide, they also posses a lot of creativity (guess that's what makes them tweak, poke) may that be in tweaking, adjusting, programming or the use of Art.
It keeps their feet to the ground.

And I thought he was just joking, Aravisian I mean.
The man already has a lot to solve.

Your screenshot shows:

  • Zorin 16 Lite: this thread is asking when Zorin OS lite will be released.
  • Chosing Target: This user was having difficulty getting the Ubiquity installer (Same installer used on Gnome or XFCE) to properly see the drive
  • Glad I'm sticking with... This one be yourn.
  • Zorin OS 16 Pro Lite - this is a mixed thread of the good and the bad from one user, not enough to say that Everyone is having issues with Zorin OS 16 Lite.

Please be mindful of the impressions you easily give thoughtlessly.

Zorin OS 16 Lite was only released a few days ago and to very little in the way of problems.

Not just him..ALL the Mods and regulars have much on their plates. THEY do GREAT!!

Thanks for including Regulars in this. The support shown by so many on this forum deserve recognition, but too often, only Moderators are credited.
That's a great thing that you include all.

This is a Forum of all users. And Mods really are tasked with moving threads or fixing titles or reminding users to not brutally assault each other and such. Everyone is encouraged to use their experiences to help us all out.
What comes around goes around.

With every new release there is going to be some cliches to be ironed out. I do not deny some people have issues, but to say "everyone" leads people to believe there is wide ranging problems. This also discourages users not wanting to try Lite. They may feel it may be a broken OS. Nothing can be further from the truth.

That is also what I am really afraid of.
Many newcomers to Zorin are often Linux novice. The blanket statement as such could have a negative influence for Zorin adoption rate.

Yes and I know the Zorin brothers worked so hard to get this out. It is incredible what they achieved. Especially when some of us were whining about the release of Lite!

I am seriously thinking of switching my main desktop to Lite.
I only had a time to test drive it on my spare laptop and was very much impressed by its speed.
Besides, after switching I can evade answering GNOME related questions

Hey, that is like what, 80% of your work reduced?

We all know my opinion of Gnome... LOL
This has less to do with the product, which is over-all fine, but much to do with the Developers and the Developers Direction for Gnome.

No sense in hashing that. I have been plenty vocal.

I am impressed with Zorin OS Lite. I always was. But what I am not is: Surprised.
I am not surprised that Zorin Lite is so good.

Zorin OS 16 Core (Gnome) however, did surprise me. It blew me away.
They made Gnome impressive To Me. Twenty minutes of reading the net will make clear the magnitude of that statement.

Zorin OS 16 is truly the Best Linux Distro I have seen. They found just the right extensions for Core.
Just the right taste for Lite.

I have zero issues with Lite. Judging by one or two persons is not correct.

And most of the issues are users errors

Or several really. It's like the Veterinarians office... You only see the animals in need of help.
Any disparity between versions notwithstanding...

Most of the posts on this forum deal with the need for help with installing, configuring, troubleshooting and repair. Some are user "oops" and some are Zorin "oops" and some are Linux "oops."
Some are even Microsoft "oops"
When you think about the vast number of Zorin OS users... and How Few of them we meet on here... It speaks volumes of the over-all performance and stability of Zorin OS.

Me personally I do like to change things a wee bit (right Aravisian) .... I like to set things up the way I want to .... do I screw things up ... ohhhh yea .... but I have plenty of wing men and women to back me up when I need help ....

The way things are going with Gnome lately it could be that Zorin might decide to change to another version of a desktop in which case you will have to learn a new one or not upgrade to a new Zorin version .... seems they did that with Zorin 16 lite .... I believe that one uses the XFCE desktop ...

I chose to install Cinnamon (my daily driver) and XFCE so I am familiar with them so I have choices plus I downloaded all of Aravisian's dark themes which will give me a different look just by choosing a different theme and wallpaper .... right now I'm using the Bumbee .... errrrrr ..... Hornet theme .... it's kinda like taking your ol' reliable VW and giving it a paint job and new upholstery ... wala .... looks like new with a tried and true vehicle underneath .... JMHO .... :+1:

Sorry my choice has cause so many to think I don't think others can do there thing. And that I'm not right in doing mine.

I like my choice and made mine know, never said you can't do yours.

In the end I'm happy with Zorin as is.... Gnome ain't as bad as it's made out. And if someone wants to use something other than Zorin I'm cool with that too.

Lots of other OS of different flavors out there that work fine for those that tweak and enjoy it. Because I use Zorin Gnome isn't a rule you have to, it's what I choose, don't care if you don't like my decision...I never said I didn't like yours.

No one asked you to defend your choice in my post. if you like Devuan or Arch or whatever your not my enemy.

Sorry I posted positive thoughts on Zorin and my choice.

I don't except your apology for defending the positive aspect of Zorin .... because you don't need to .... we all treat our computers differently and what works for one may not work for another .... ain't it great that we have choices .... I certainly respect your right to use what desktop you like ....

Your post showed that you like and use Gnome and have had no problems with it .... I too used Gnome when I first started out on Zorin 16 Pro (2.5 months ago) and I don't remember having any problems on it (well that isn't true .... I did drive Aravisian nuts trying to install Cinnamon but that was my user error not Gnome) once I understood a little bit on how Zorin worked .... it was fine ....

Now Cinnamon and FXCE was a different story cause I like to fiddle and fiddling can lead to what happened to Nero and Rome ....

I hope my post above didn't lead you to think I was bashing your choice to use Gnome because I wasn't .... I was just expressing what I like to do with Zorin 16 Pro and how I use it ... I'm sure there are a lot of people who use Gnome and never leave it ....

Close...
Zorin OS Lite used to use LXDE desktop. It was later switched to XFCE.
I do like LXDE... But I can see a lot of good reasons to switch to XFCE.

  • better window management
  • more configuration settings
  • Better Support
  • XFCE is about as light on resources as LXDE is, in spite of being more fleshed out.

I think it really helps a person to Learn their system.

Bubby... I would like address something here by quoting you. Frog expressed himself quite well to what you had to say. I also agree with what you had to say. But in the Opener - the O.P.:

This statement is quite leading.

So is this one, actually.
These lead the reader to think that XFCE is not working, hard to configure and deal with... You had said that "everyone" was having to deal with the issues with Lite... And are therefor glad you are safe from that on Gnome.

I am not trying to beat you down any.
I am sure you can see... that is an interesting introduction to the topic.

Zorin OS Lite is as easy to start out with as Zorin OS Core is. They do not require additional or exceptional configurations, tweaking or modifications. It wasn't really that others were saying that you cannot use what you enjoy... It was that your wording implied that we were fools to enjoy Zorin OS Lite. It may be that somehow you got an inaccurate impression of Zorin OS Lite.
Either way, your O.P. was positive in only one Direction.
