I have a new laptop (HP Omnibook X Laptop NGA 17 - dd0013dx) with microsoft 11 and want to switch to zorin 18 core. It has an Intel Core Ultra 7 256v processor. 1tb SSD. 16gb on board LPDDR5X sdram. Touch screen . and intel graphics. Printer is HP office jet 8010 prints wirelessly .
My question will Zorin 18 recognize my hardware and printer?
Thank.you👍
Download Zorin OS, write it to a USB, and try it out in Live Mode. Run through the UI and see how the hardware works with it, especially wifi, BT, and other communication apps. And the touch screen and pointers.
Welcome to the Forum!
The Processor is relatively new. It couldbe neccessary to install a newer Kernel. But try it in Live Mode and see how it performs/behaves. The ISO should come with Kernel 6.14 but there is already 6.17 available in the Repo's. So, You would get a newer Kernel. But maybe it isn't enough. But check the Live Mode first.
it seem the 6.17 is installed with the last ISO, it's what I saw 2 days ago with a fresh install on a friend laptop, without launching any update before check.
Was the Installation with or without an Internet Connection? Because with, it could be updated during the Installation and directly start with the Kernel when done.
It was with, so you are right it could be updated during installation...
This is all new to me so you will have to forgive me as i am not very computer literate. So ,if i understand correctly i should install Zorin 18 on a external USB drive and run it from there?
Thank you,
Brian,
After downloading the ZorinOS .iso file, first check the SHA checksum is correct and corresponds to the published value on the Zorin website.
Then create a ZorinOS bootable USB using Rufus or another tool, making sure you select "GPT" for UEFI or "MBR" for Legacy BIOS.
Boot the ZorinOS USB and select "Try Zorin" mode.
That is what @RealBLAlley is suggesting.
I should have been more clear and detailed, but correct.
Is there a harware compatability list for Zorin 18avaialable?
Thank you,
There is far too much hardware for them to list. Most will work, but a handful of developers like Nvidia choose to only support your namesake.
That's why you try distros in live mode and test them against your specific hardware.
Thank you
No, unfortunately not. But setting up a Bootstick is a simple Way to make a first Check how the System runs.
You can use:
Zorin OS 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04
Zorin OS 18 is based on Ubuntu 24.04
So you can just reference the Ubuntu Version that matches Zorin OS.
There is also a separate tool which allows you to do this:
It is also available in the OS repository - no need for the Snap package.
sudo apt install hw-probe
The website applies to those who want to check before installing Zorin OS.
