Hardware Utilities for MSI Laptop

Hi All!

I decided to finally break away from Windows and explore Zorin. I have dabbled with linux terminals in Virtual machines before but I am an amateur at best.

I want to set up my computer for gaming primarily, and being able to monitor temps, control fan speeds, enable "Cooler Booster" for MSI laptop fans and all of that.

I am just curious as to how to edit nvidia profiles, monitor and control my hardware and really get set up.

I have a MSI GE66 Raider with a 2080 Super and an i7 cpu @2.60GHz. Along with that I have two solid state drives, one for my windows and zorin dual boot, and a 2TB for general storage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Hello,

Maybe browse the Gnome extension site for monitoring your hardware: https://extensions.gnome.org/

Welcome to the Forum!

For Monitory, You could use the Gnome Extension Vitals or psensor. psensor You can install with sudo apt install psensor

If you want more Data, I would recommend Vitals. For adjusting Fan speeds, You could try fan-control. This is available as Flatpak in Gnome Software:

Hi @JuteScrap, i have a msi laptop as well. I post frequently my stuff on the msi forums lol.

For monitoring the temprature i use the terminal and write sensors. The app is not installed by default so you get a output back to install this app.

For the nvidia stuff i use the stock nvidia-settings. Mine looks like this

For fancontrol i use the fn key + up key to activate coolerboost. I don't use anything else because i used that same thing in Windows. Idle the system runs a bit cooler for me compared to windows.
