I had it working in MINT but mint itself was always crashing and although i did like it I couldn't carry on with it like that!
Back to Autostart . I set my abbreviations up just as i did in mint but nothing works. just doesn't . Has anyone else had troubles with it?
I did try installing the other version Autostartqu i think its called but that was just the same?
Are you on Xorg or Wayland? If you're on Wayland switch to Xorg. Logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There you can switch between both.
Ok Thanks! I am going to sound stupid now ! when you say login and click on my username where do you mean . in the boot menu?
No, only logout, don't shutdown the computer, then you see the login screen. Click in the field where you enter your password, then a cogwheel appears. You see two entries, one is for Wayland and one for Xorg (only one entry has a name)

If you use automatic login you don't have this cogwheel. Then you can create another user account with password login or disable the automatic login.

Thanks! but... it took me ages to find the logout button LOL so then i logged out but couldn't see the cog! i clicked a icon in the top right corner and had a list of options . Not the wayland/Xorg one though but being an explorer type 
I clicked on zoom wondering what it would do ... it certainly zoomed lol it was lucky i could still login as the zoom was crazy and everything moved around with the mouse. I'm hoping that when i restrt that will be gone but it wasn't gone when i logged out/in again 
Me again i did try restarting but it was still zoomed. I did manage to find that option again and turned it off but the best part was I found the Cog where you meant me to look and it was 'Login to Desktop" and Login "Xorg" so i crossed my fingers and tried it. At least i'm back in Zorin now I have to test whether it makes any difference to Autokey. will report back tomorrow . Thanks again..

Autokey only supports Xorg so far.
For the use in Wayland this fork project could maybe work. But if you have no problems elsewhere, stay on Xorg and the original autokey app.
But from that github link it says:
" Important: This version of AutoKey currently only works with Gnome desktops under Wayland. Under X11, it continues to work with any desktop environment. I hope to extend Wayland support to KDE shortly, and to other desktop environments in the future."
So it's supposed to work with Wayland on Gnome desktop (Zorin Pro, Core). According to his profile, Mike is on Core so = Gnome. Anyhow, I would use X11 as preference regardless.
Yes I have been using it for a few weeks now with X11 and it's absolutely fine ! thanks to all who replied
