I am a Mint and Windows 11 user. Zorin appears not as friendly to find things like I found Mint to be. Is there a tutorial for newbies? For now, I am trying to find out how to put some icons on the desktop, usual ones like Trash, computer, documents, etc. Also, I did not yet find much on configuring my touchpad like sensitivity and scrolling direction. Seems I am accustomed to scrolling opposite from what comes standard on most Linux distros.
Open Zorin appearance app > desktop, there you can enable some icons. To add other apps search for the apps in the start menu and then right click on the app and select "add to the desktop".
The touchpad settings you find at settings > mouse and touchpad. Select the touchpad there to make the settings.
You can change the speed and the scrolling direction. Probably you want to set the scrolling direction to traditional.
To place icons on the desktop, you can use Zorin Appearance, which you can open via the Zorin Start button:
There, under Desktop, you can activate "Icons on Desktop" and check the boxes to select which icons you want on your desktop, e.g., for the Recycle Bin, etc.
Additionally, just like in Windows, you can create shortcuts for folders and files and then move these shortcuts to the desktop.
You can take a look at the unofficial manual for Zorin 18 of Swarfendor:
Thanks much to all. This info will give me a good start.
I can help you with half of this. I too wanted my Trash Icon on the Desktop. I was just used to it. In windows I always had my trash over by my date and clock for extra precaution, just in case. For the documents being on the desktop I like how it is in the "Start Menu" You have Home then Documents. I created many many folders in my "Home" but everyone has their own way to setup. Now back to the Desktop Icons. Go to "Start" then click Zorin Appearance, then select Desktop. Make sure the Icons on Desktop is selected. There you can choose Trash. I did. Love it. I also moved my trash over by the date and time. Like in Windows. For me. Also just to find out for you. I selected the Home Icon to be on the desktop. Now since I made many folders in the Home. To be organized. All my folders that are in the Home, were in the Home on the Desktop.
