Kinda new here, but I'd like some help installing these two pieces of Deepin software: Music & Album. Before switching to Zorin, my first distro was Linux Mint and after a bit of searching, I stumbled upon this small suite of Deepin software. I really liked the minimalist design and was kinda bummed out that it doesn't quite work on Zorin.
I'm very new to Linux so the most I understand here is that I'm missing several dependencies. I've tried looking through forums here but most of what I read either flew over my head or wasn't very helpful. Especially since it seems like Deepin stuff doesn't mesh well with Zorin. I'm really not sure of what to do here, so some help would be very appreciated.
If that's not possible, then could I get some suggestions for other software that is also similarly minimalist? What I really want is an album or gallery that looks and feels like an app on mobile.
The installation worked for me when I tested it in a Zorin 18.1 Core live session, but it are huge packages (it installs many dependencies of deepin desktop).
The deepin-music crashed after opening and showed a memory access error. I then installed vlc because in terminal was something shown with vlc, and that helped to launch deepin music.
sudo apt install vlc
I think there are surely better options than using that deepin software. But when you like it, I think you can get it to work on Zorin. In my test, both apps worked (with vlc installed). What is the problem you have?
So I followed your instructions and installed Deepin Album, Music, and VLC through the terminal but the results were more or less the same: when I try to launch Album or Music, it won't open. I restarted my laptop just in case that might fix it, but nothing.
The furthest I got was with Deepin Music, which gave me a little icon on the taskbar that I can sort of interact with.
Otherwise, no windows will open when I try to launch either. I also forgot to mention that I have dualboot on my laptop, with Linux Mint being the other distro. Maybe that's what's causing problems?
Maybe it is a Wayland issue. I've only tested it in Xorg.
If you are running on Wayland, please try to switch to Xorg and test it there.
Logout and at login click on your username, then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There you can switch between Xorg and Wayland.
No, Linux Mint doesn't make the problems. But Linux Mint also uses Xorg by default, not Wayland as Zorin.
No, you can switch back if you like. Test what works better on your computer. Some new computers run better on Wayland, but many computers and apps run better with Xorg. Wayland is the newer display server protocol, but causes sometimes problems. I myself also use Xorg.
