How do you handle occasional web video downloads on Zorin OS?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to keep my Zorin OS setup relatively lightweight, so I prefer using the browser for occasional tasks instead of installing a separate application for every small job.

One thing I'm curious about is how other Zorin users handle saving publicly available videos from websites.

For occasional Facebook videos, I've come across a browser-based service called fdown.media. It doesn't require installing a separate Linux application, which is the reason I came across it.

I'm more interested in the general Zorin OS approach than recommending a particular service.

For this type of task, would you normally prefer:

  • a browser-based service;
  • a native Linux application;
  • a command-line tool; or
  • another approach?

I'm also interested in the security/privacy side. What do you normally check before using an unfamiliar web-based service on Zorin OS?

For example, do you check whether it requires an account, asks for permissions, uses unnecessary redirects, or has a clear privacy policy?

I'd appreciate hearing how other Zorin users approach this.

Welcome to the Forum!

A Browser Plugin Solution might not be the worst Idea because so You have it integrated when You are in the Browser and watch a Video, You can directly interact to download it.

But I would prefer a seperate Program for a better Overview. Maybe not the handiest Way but I would do it that Way. There are some Programs out there. For Example Varia; is available as Flatpak.
