Plenty of companies have gone after each other just to apply pressure because they know they are big enough, even without having a good case to made. That doesn't mean that the other had done anything wrong.
When it became known that YouTube had been profiting off of people's data without their knowledge and consent, ad blockers started to become really popular. As a result, YouTube started to crack down on them like it did with YT Vance, for example. There's a reason they are called tech giants.
Today, the saga continues with Google taking advantage of its position as a browser maker, by dictating the way that certain API work to facilitate tracking and making it more difficult for certain ad blockers to work properly. One of the reasons why Google has been forced to sell Google Chrome.
So, I don't mean to turn this into a who did what back and forth, but this is the kind of thing that makes attitudes change. Nothing wrong is being done by using a tool that could be used with malicious intents.
I did some research on the web yesterday about Youtube videos being copied and it seems the unanimous conclusion to people downloading content from YouTube is that the up loader will loose revenue if the down loader shares the videos with other people .... and this I agree with ....... or uses the content or any part of the material for resale ..... such as selling music or copied videos .... this I also agree with .... and should not be done for any reason .... IMHO .....
I think it's worth pointing out that downloading something is not the same as distributing it.
For example, you can downloading a video to watch it during a long flight where you will have no internet and wouldn't be able to watch off of YouTube directly.
This is different from taking advantage of using a Premium account for certain channels that have exclusive content, and then download and share that content with others.
I would encourage everyone to refrain from downloading any content if in doubt. Better to play it safe.
