When i installed Zorin i allocated about 35GB, now im running out of space. Is there anyway to increasing the space for Zorin?
There absolutely is a way, as long as your drive has room available to do so. Could you share a screenshot of the drive you have with Zorin on it with either Gparted or Disks open, so we can see how much space and other partitions are on the drive? We could get a better idea of how best to go about it after that.
Ok so I'm assuming this is a dualboot with Windows then. I would before doing anything backup everything as most what you're going to do should be safe, but there's always the chance that something goes wrong and data loss occurs.
What I would do is :
- Make sure fast boot is disabled in Windows and your BIOS, just to make things safer
- Boot into a live USB with Zorin (as an example, can be any distro though)
- Within said live distro, open gParted (if it's not there, just install it)
- Select your windows Partition (presumably partition 2) and you're going to want to shrink(Resize/Move) it to whatever you can / are comfortable giving to Zorin
This is just an example of the window that you would see. You can click the bar on the right side of the screen to drag it towards the left hand side, shrinking the partition - After you've shrunk that, select your Zorin partion (Partition 3) and then do the same thing, but you're just going to expand that partition to take up the rest of the space
- Once you've set everything up as you want it to be, click Apply in the top of gParted to apply the changes. It can take a little while to do sometimes, but once done, you should be able to shut down and boot like normal with an enlarged Zorin partition and shrunken Windows
That looks right so far. However, as a precaution, please back up your data before making changes to the partitions.
On the screenshot you can only see 4 things to be changed. What are the other 2 operations? Are they mentioned?
If I were you I would start from the beginning and minimize/enlarge the partitions in two steps not in 4 (You changed the size again later - set it to the desired value straight away).
The other two are unallocated. One is 64MiB
and the other is 1.34MIB
I meant, there was shown "6 operations pending" and four things listed and I asked myself if there are further ones shown somewhere...But I don't know exactly. Eyerything can be alright.
Yes. This will stop it. The operations are only made after confirming them.
Wait i think i made a mistake after quitting Gparted it remained as 35GB. When i booted using the USB i chose to try Zorin OS. Did i made a mistake.
Also the files are doing fine
Using "Try Zorin mode" is right.
I thought you wanted to cancel gparted? Then no changes will be made to the partitions - as long as you have not explicitly confirmed this. This means that your partitions will still be the old ones.
Oh right I haven't APPLIED yet it🤦♂️, i just realized that after asking that
So if i would i apply the changes i would go to Edit > Apply All Operations in the Gparted right
I thought the changes would already be applied after quitting GParted
Yes, you have to apply the changes. You can also click on the green hook.![]()
