I am using XFCE, not Gnome. So that part was easier.
On Zorin OS, since even Zorin Lite uses Gnome Apps like Gnome-Software and Disk Analyzer (Boabab) and so on, I just replaced those apps with other options, rather than patching GTK and the apps like I did on my personal build.
Then I removed LibAdwaita. Doing this Will Not Work on Gnome (zorin-os-desktop) as it will remove the Zorin OS Core dependencies.
But what it means is... On Zorin OS Lite, a user can be LibAdwaita free.
Is it difficult? Are there many steps involved? If you ever feel like writing a guide for this procedure, I would be interested!, also what are the alternative programs you can use instead.
Not at all. Nowhere near as difficult as patching it on Gnome.
Because I use XFCE, it was painless.
But, I am waiting it out to discover what things I need to fix before I say a lot.
For example: Nemo-fileroller depends on LibAdwaita for no reason at all. So I replaced it with a custom Nemo action.
The removal also removed or left vacant gir1.2-gtk-4.0, which I needed to reinstall after.
Alternative programs: So far, only Gnome Software has needed replacing and I never used it anyway.
Software & Updates brings its own injected Adwaita, so I set the environment file to use my system theme to fix that one.
I have not noticed anything else yet, but I will test for a week or so.
One thing to be wary of: libadwaita-1-0 is pervasive as a dependency so any Gnome Application will try to drag it back in.
