The RAID setting is checked through the recovery BIOS or the computer bios?
Machine BIOS - usually F2, F12, or DEL when booting.
Sorry. This is going to be sloppy since im on my phone and i cant see your message when im replying to you.
I can use the usb port on the computer im downloading the new install onto.
I used F2 and my options are memory test, hard drive check, and language.
Sounds like you got the Grub menu - completely shutdown the Vivobook, press the power button, and immediately start pressing the F2 button; Street Fighter Turbo style
I was checking on my old computer.
On the computer im installing the 17.3 on i got to the bios but where would that RAId be under.
Would be in disk management or disk settings somewhere - might have to Google specifics though, I don't have it in front of me to poke around to find it.
As long as you don't change settings, look around - should be in there somewhere
I don't see RAID anywhere. I started downloading the 17.3 onto my thumb drive then i will download the balanch etcher onto the thumb drive. By the looks of it this download will take some time.
I will come back when it's done.
Cool, then it's likely you don't have RAID settings in your BIOS; one down..
Etcher just writes the ISO files though, what else do you need it for?
I thought i have to download the iso file first onto the computer first before downloading the 17.3.
Im going to attempt to backup my personal files on the computer (I'll just call it Asus now) the 17.3 is going into.
I think this is where I started today.
Etcher is an app used to write ISO files; it is not needed on the flash drive itself. It's an installable application.
I'm not sure what files you're going to attempt accessing since you've not been able to boot into Zorin..
Slightly confusing - I'll wait until you get a little further and attempt installing again..
I'm downloading the 17.3 onto the thumb drive using my old computer which is where i got my download ink from after i bought it.
Then with those on the disk i was to put the thumb drive into my new computer and go through the recovery terminal to install the 17.3 on my new computer.
That would be a long process lol
Why not just create the USB installer and reinstall though GUI?
I'm all for shortening the time it takes but i don't know what that means.
The download is about half done.
The next step i have to do is backup my files on the new computer before installing the 17.3.
After the backup is done I'm going to follow the instructions on the "how to download or install your zorin os" on the instructions found in the forum.
Sound like a plan, well a good plan?
They said to backup the personal files first before installing the 17.3.
The download of 17.3 stopped and said it failed. It's starting the process over.
At this point i would pay good money if i knew anyone who could do this for me.
Depending on your internet connection, it may take a while and / or fail in the process if there's any hiccups.
There has been no answer to this question - what files, if you haven't gotten to even boot into Zorin, do you have to backup?? This is a generalized help document. From what info has been provided thus far - you don't have any files to back up...
If you've already got another machine with Ubuntu or Zorin, you don't need Etcher - just open Disks and restore the disk image like in my previous post. Again, that's just a generalized document - a lot of that is for if you're migrating from Windows; natively, Windows cannot write ISO files so you have to use an application like Etcher or Rufus.
You don't need to pay anyone, just pay attention to the instructions and proceed with caution double checking everything along the way. All you're technically doing with Etcher or other apps is extracting the .iso file to the flash media. If you have an application that supports extracting the .iso file, format your flash drive with NTFS and extract the .iso file to the blank flash drive - done. No need for Etcher or other apps.
Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiW4KN2rNZY - and replace Ubuntu with Zorin.
I will watch the link.
My asus kept showing i had 0 disk space left and the commands i tried didn't or couldn't repair it.
Somehow during the attempt to repair it it suddenly then wouldn't boot into zorin. I can only go to the recovery menu and get a root shell prompt terminal to use.
So I'm needing to back up the personal files on the asus that i acquired after installing the 16.3 during the last couple years. My personal files and my bookmark files, etc.
The download keeps failing. I checked the things that might be causing it and i think it's the download speed. This old computer is slow even with just lite on it. I'll try later.
If you are downloading the 17.3 .iso from Zorin website to a USB thumbdrive then that will be a speed bottleneck. Can you download the .iso to a HDD or SSD on another machine, check the SHA256 checksum, then create your installation USB on that machine, or copy the (downloaded) .iso to a machine with a USB creation tool.
