I updated kernel and lost wifi

I struggled with trying to get that .deb package to work and failed... So I turned to Larry Fingers provided drivers. It also needed a lot of footwork to get it installed as dkms which I did not really feel like trying to type out a book on here to walk through all the steps.
Instead, I packaged it as a .deb package that you can download and double click to install:

Once it is installed, in terminal, run:

sudo modprobe -rv 8852be

sudo modprobe -v 8852be

Reboot and test WiFi...

Wow thanks!
Unfortunatly it didn't work...

I tried it on the 2 kernel I have and it did something different:
on 6.2 it did this:

yves@yves-IdeaPad-Slim-3-15IRU8:~$ sudo modprobe -rv 8852be
[sudo] Mot de passe de yves :
yves@yves-IdeaPad-Slim-3-15IRU8:~$ sudo modprobe -v 8852be
insmod /lib/modules/6.2.0-060200-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8852be.ko
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert '8852be': Exec format error

And in 5.19 it did this:

yves@yves-IdeaPad-Slim-3-15IRU8:~$ sudo modprobe -rv 8852be
[sudo] Mot de passe de yves :
modprobe: FATAL: Module 8852be not found.

I did't try the second command since the module wasn't found in the first one. When I tested it in 5.19, I uninstalled the .deb package before installing it again, it didn't change anything.

What about

sudo modprobe 8852be

on the 6.2?

By the way, have you tested how the Zorin OS 17 Beta works on your machine?

yves@yves-IdeaPad-Slim-3-15IRU8:~$ sudo modprobe 8852be
[sudo] Mot de passe de yves :
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert '8852be': Exec format error

It does the same error.

No I haven't I kinda need the stability... but I could try to see if at least it solves the problems I have here

So i tried the live version from the USB stick and it seems to work perfectly, wifi was connected, could change the brightness and so I guess the sleep mode would work to, but I need to install it to test.

I was curious about Mint to, so I tried the version using 5.15 kernel and I couldn't connect on the wifi... I tried the edge version (working with kernel 6.2) and it seems to work.

I prefer to use Zorin, so unless there's any more ideas to make it work, I'll have to chose between connecting to the wifi from my phone or hurting my eyes looking at the screen before Zorin 17 is stable. They say a few weeks, could it be more then a month or within this month it could be released?

What do you mean by hurting your eyes?

While Zorin OS 17 is in Beta testing; this does not mean it is very risky to use. If all your hardware works on it, if it was me, I would switch over to it.

thanks you for your help and suggestions!

The screen is too bright the white is hurting my eyes even more at night, and I can't turn on the night mode

Yes, I always use dark themes. Can you use the Zorin Appearance App in Zorin OS 17 to switch to the dark Zorin Themes or use a third party dark theme?

Pretty sure I can but other things like this forum is very white and that wont change... unless there's a visual option in the forum for a dark theme?

Yes, there is. You can click your Profile Image on the upper right side of the page. Then click the "Person Icon" at the bottom of the right pane.
Click Preferences
Then click on Interface tab on the upper right of the tabs and look to the page Color Scheme

Thanks!

Hopefully this will be my last question...
I'll try to install zorin 17. My computer is already in dual boot windows and zorin 16.3. Can I install zorin 17 on the third partition and then uninstall zorin 16.3? I'd like to keep windows for now
