Ich habe eine Frage zur NVIDIA RTX 4060? [Translation: A Question for NVIDIA RTX 4060]

Are you putting your 4060 under load? When my 5090 is idle, it uses 25W, but if I start a 4K game, it uses 250W. Generally, unless performance is too slow, lower power usage is better, and the card will only use what it needs.

Is the System running in Wayland or X11/Xorg? You can check that in Settings>About. And what Driver do You use?

For setting up the Power Limit, I would have 2 Ideas for Tools. the first one is called LACT:

The other one is called GreenWithEnvy and is available as Flatpak in Gnome Software:

In LACT it should be this:

In GWE here:

And I ask again about the Driver Version and if Your System runs in Wayland or X11/Xorg (You can check that in Settings>About).

It might be a general issue with the fact Zorin is based on Ubuntu with regards your device?:

Okay, good. And what Driver Version do You use? 535, 550, 570?

Can you run the terminal command nvidia-smi and show us what it says?

This is followed by an output:
Changing power management limit is not supported in current scope for GPU: 00000000:01:00.0.
All done.

This seems like it should be obvious, but I'll ask just in case, based on the Nvidia forum link you posted. Does your computer have a "performance mode" option in BIOS or as a hardware switch? Possibly as a key combination? I've seen all three of these.

If not, are you set to performance mode in Zorin's power settings?

It looks to me like either the manufacturer or Zorin are trying to keep your power usage down to save battery. That isn't what you want, but if HP locked you into that, it may be difficult to change.

Like @Locklear93 already wrote, would it be good to check the Power Settings if You have the Performance Mode enabled if available.

Beneath the 550 Driver, it could be worth to try the 535 Driver, too.

Have you ever updated the BIOS?:

Update HP Victus 16 BIOS

Updating the BIOS of an HP Victus 16 laptop in Linux involves several steps. First, you need to download the BIOS update package from the HP website. Since the package is typically a Windows executable, you can use Wine to extract the BIOS update file. Alternatively, you can use a Windows machine to extract the BIOS update file and then transfer it to your Linux system.

Once you have the BIOS update file, you need to prepare a USB drive to carry out the update. Here are the general steps:

  1. Download the BIOS update package from the HP website and extract the BIOS update file using Wine or a Windows machine.
  2. Create a bootable USB drive with the extracted BIOS update file. The file should be placed in the root directory of the USB drive.
  3. Insert the USB drive into your HP Victus 16 laptop and restart it.
  4. During the startup process, press the appropriate key (often Esc, F2, or F10) to enter the BIOS setup.
  5. Navigate to the Boot menu and ensure that the USB drive is set as the first boot device.
  6. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup. The laptop will attempt to boot from the USB drive and initiate the BIOS update process.

If you encounter issues with insufficient disk space, ensure that there is enough free space on your NVMe drive and delete any unnecessary files. Additionally, verify that the BIOS update file is not corrupted and re-download it if necessary.

Here is a more detailed guide from a user who successfully updated their HP Victus 16 BIOS in Linux:

  1. Download the BIOS update package from the HP website.
  2. Extract the BIOS update file using Wine or a Windows machine.
  3. Copy the extracted BIOS update file to the root directory of a USB drive.
  4. Insert the USB drive into your HP Victus 16 laptop and restart it.
  5. Press the appropriate key (Esc, F2, or F10) to enter the BIOS setup during startup.
  6. Navigate to the Boot menu and set the USB drive as the first boot device.
  7. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup. The laptop will boot from the USB drive and initiate the BIOS update process.

It is important to note that the BIOS update process should be completed without interruptions, so ensure your laptop is plugged in during the update to avoid any power-related issues.

Additionally, some users have reported that the BIOS update process can sometimes cause issues with recognizing games stored on external HDDs. If you experience such issues, you may need to troubleshoot or seek further assistance from HP support forums.

Lastly, always ensure you have backups of important data before attempting any BIOS updates, as incorrect procedures can potentially brick your device.

Honestly kind of appalling that the BIOS upgrade is only available via .EXE files and not the way most motherboard manufacturers do it, where you place a properly named file on a USB and choose an option from BIOS to do the update.
