I'm new to zorin, however I have been using Mint for many years. I'm trying to move picture files (mostly jpeg) from an old windows hdd to zorin. Many open and display okay but some will open and then go black and some won't open at all. I'm trying to open in image viewer, do I need to use different software?
To me, that sounds like file transfer corruption.
Is this a very large volume of files from the NTFS drive?

Maybe the Files are damaged. Did You copied all at once? Or is this a really old Drive?
Yes, It's a 500GB drive from a windows system now in a hdd enclosure. I already transferred a large mp3 file ,25 gb, from the same drive without a problem. I also had already done 240 mb without a problem.
I didn't try to copy all at once, some of the files only contained six or eight images. Others were larger but it didn't seem to make any difference in the failure rate.
Are these very old Data?
I guess you could say that. Some are as much as fourteen years old. They are our collection of photos from our home desktop that had a motherboard failure. I didn't think it was worth repairing and I wanted to change to an SSD and a newer machine. Also to get away from Microsoft.

Okay. So, maybe some Data could be damaged. At least, it would be a Possibility. When You look at the Files are there any weird File Names or Endings?
If you open them directly on that drive - do they load properly?
If the NTFS drive has file system damage, you may be able to repair it using sudo ntfsfix followed by the device ID.

First I want to thank you for the welcome and your attention to this. I have removed the drives from the windows computer and I'm running them in a usb enclosure. When they open on the Zorin machine they look exactly like they did on the other machine, same file names and extensions. I still have a laptop that has Windows 10 on a dual boot with Mint. Maybe I'll try to open them on the windows and see what happens. Thanks again for your help.
I will try this also. The puzzling thing is that many of the pictures opened normally for maybe thirty seconds or so and then the screen went black.
That is a good Idea. So, You can double-check.
Sorry for the delayed response. I have tried both hdd's on the windows 10 computer and it looks like the data must be corrupted. This is still puzzling though because the images opened on Zorin originally and then gradually more of them failed. I will have to investigate this a little further.
