installing on windows pc with 2 ssd's. C Drive does not need to be saved but, drive D I do not want to lose.

Thank you

Welcome to the Forum!

So, You have a Windows PC. There are 2 Drives. And now You want install Zorin. Do You want replace Windows with Zorin or do You want install Zorin beneath Windows? On which Drive is Windows installed?

I would like to replace windows with Linux. I want to move away from Windows. The drive D has info I do not want to lose.

If you can unplug your D drive or disable it in the BIOS, that would be the easiest way to prevent accidentally deleting anything from it.
Alternatively, you can also unmount the D drive before installation.
Then choose the automatic installation on your desired C drive. In Linux the names for the drives are not C or D but sda and sdb or nvme0n1 and nvme0n2

Okay, then there would be the Option that is already named here: Unplug the D Drive, install Zorin on the C Drive and then plug the D Drive in.

If You don't want open Your Machine or You can't, You have to go a different Way. During the Installation choose the Option ''Something else'' to manually create the Partitions. There You choose the Drive that You want use. Like @Forpli already wrote: The Drives there ar not named C or D. So, be carfeul and choose the right Drive or You will delete the wrong one! When chosen, delete the Drive.

Then create 2 Partitions:

  • a 512mb EFI Partition in FAT32
  • for the Rest of the Drive take the Mount Point / and format it to ext4

There isn't, as you say.

512 is twice of 256. Old habits.

This is something that can easily be done. I have Zorin OS 16 PRO installed on 1-NVME drive, and Zorin OS 16 PRO Lite installed, on the 2nd NVME drive. I chose to do it this way, cause its far easier then trying to setup a dual boot, on the same drive.

When I installed both OS's, I did it one at a time, cause I got the 2nd NVME drive, further down the road. With that said, the recommendation to install 1 drive at a time, is probably a good idea. Also, don't forget to backup your Windows data, just incase you don't wanna lose anything important.

For the Partition, it doesn't matter. You can take less, too if Your Storage is limited.

Thank you for your info. This will help. I have dos 5.3 in the past. and terminal from what I have seen look and/or act like dos.

D drive is NVMe and almost full, 2tb drive. So backing up this drive is no possible.

I believe the safest way for me is to remove that drive, Thank you all for your help.
