Installing issues with ZorinOS

I have a brand new ASUS ROG Strix G713 (Ryzen 9, NVIDIA RTX4060) that has Windows 11 Home pre installed and wanted to try ZorinOS.
I flashed the usb drive (2 actually none of them worked) and booted from usb. It starts by showing the menu Try or Install ZorinOS (with 3 options - nothing added, safe graphics and updated nvidia drivers). Each attempt sends me to the check md5sums filesystem check and then there is a restart and does not install or run ZorinOS.

I tried this for 4 hours and could not install or try ZorinOS.

You may need to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS settings. Take a look at this help page:

Hello Zenzen,

Thank you for the help. I removed Secure Boot as you mentioned and then it asked me for Bitlocker Recovery as this has Microsoft Windows builtin with bitlocker. I entered the recovery key and it continued but it did not solved my problem.
It runs from the drive and shows the menu. Then it does a Checking md5sums and reboots. It then shows the menu to to boot from where and I enter USB. It goes into the checking filesystem md5sums again.
I ran the quickhash on the usb pen and even switched pens to no avail.

I am at a loss and don't really know how to install ZorinOs.

Thank you

Welcome to the Forum!

So, Secure Boot is already turned off in the BIOS. Are Fast Boot and TPM turned off, too?
And is Fast Start-Up in Windows turned off?
Is your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
What Program did You used for creating the bootable USB Stick?

Let's rewind to the downloaded .iso before making boot media. Did you check the SHA256 key of the downloaded .iso?

Additionally, in order to install alongside Windows you need to use Windows Disk Management to shrink the Windows partition to make room for another OS.

Hello,

Thank you all for the help. Let me answer all your questions.

  1. Did you check the SHA256 key of the downloaded .iso?
A: Yes I did and checks out correct.

  2. Additionally, in order to install alongside Windows you need to use Windows Disk Management to shrink the Windows partition to make room for another OS.
A: I did this although to try it out it is not necessary. I never even got to this point of testing or installing it.

  3. Are Fast Boot and TPM turned off, too?
A: I don't have this option on BIOS. I have a TPM according to Device Manager but I don't have any options on BIOS.

  4. And is Fast Start-Up in Windows turned off?
A: I just turned it off on the power options.

  5. Is your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
    A: BIOS is UEFI

  6. What Program did You used for creating the bootable USB Stick?
A: Program I used was both Rufs and Balena Etcher.

Thanks so much

Yes, You can do it without that when You choose in the Installation Process the Option ''Install Zorin alongside Windows''. Then the Installer makes it all automatically.

Okay, UEFI. When you used rufus: Did You checked that you have chosen on the Partition Sheme Option GPT? Because that works better with UEFI BIOS. Look here:

Hmm ... These Options can be a bit hidden. It depends from Your Motherboard Manufacturer and BIOS where you can find that.

Oh, and when you tried to install it: Did you installed it with or without Nvidia Drivers?

I always think it is better to use Windows Disk Management to make space for another OS - there have been incidents before where forum members have used the install alongside method and can no longer access Windows. Perhaps a better alternative is still to use Disk Management but use NeoSmart EasyBCD which now if I read correctly, now supports Windows 11. It is what I used in my video on dual booting an earlier version of Zorin alongside Windows 7:

I can only speak for me: I had never Problems to install it that Way. You choose the Option, then in the next Window with the Toggle the Space that You want use, confirm it and then all will be done automatically.

Hello,

Thank you for your help. I am about to give up at this point.
Q: Did You checked that you have chosen on the Partition Sheme Option GPT?
A: Yes, I did picked GPT - UEFI when I used RUFUS.

Q: Hmm ... These Options can be a bit hidden. It depends from Your Motherboard Manufacturer and BIOS where you can find that.
A: I verified every little thing on the BIOS on advanced settings everywhere. Couldn't find FastBoot or TPM settings anywhere.

Q: Did you installed it with or without Nvidia Drivers?
A: I tried all three options. It never got even close to a menu anywhere. It just looped the filesystem check md5sums and restarted.

Thanks

Did you try another distro like Pop! OS or Linux Mint ?

Did You tried it with another Distro - POP OS or Linux Mint like @Michel suggested - or with Ubuntu directly if You have with these the same Problem?

Hello,

Not yet I haven't. I will do so on monday perhaps and see if it is any different.
