Is it possible to disable IGPU?

Hi. Can i disable I-GPU in my BIOS so there will be only my discrete graphic card (RTX 4000) without blocking my system or make errors ? Thanks...

That should be possible, yes. You might need to look a bit in Your BIOS Settings where to find that. It can be directly that You can choose between external and intrnal Graphics or You might be able to set up Graphics Output through PCIe. There isn't a unified Option. So, you have to look a bit.

You could also post Pictures of Your BIOS here. So, we can take a Look at it. Maybe, we can find it together.

What is not a good Idea? Posting Pictures of Your BIOS or disable iGPU in BIOS?

Disabling igpu.

If you have a discrete vid card installed..disabling the I-gpu wont hurt anything you will only be able to use the discrete one. now if that one was ever to stop working ...you would have to go in and enable the I-gpu so you can use it till the new vid card comes in...I have done this in the past with great success I cant show you how to do that tho as my APU didnt come with video on the chip have to use a descrete vid card on this unit

When you don't want to do it ... That is up to You. By the Way: Can You tell us what Graphics Combination You have?

Hi. So i have done it already without problems. I have Raptor Lake IGPU with Nvidia 4080.

You have an Nvidia Card. Okay. I guess, You have installed an Nvidia Driver? If yes, You can use for switching between Nvidia Graphics and iGPU a Command in Zorin.

You can use prime-select for it. So, when You wnat use the Nvidia Card, You type

sudo prime-select nvidia

And when You want use the Intel iGPU type

sudo prime-select intel

Another Option would be

sudo prime-select on-demand

Then, it switches between both depending if more or less Graphic Power is needed. But I don't know how well this works.

On demand reduce ventilator noise by using igpu with non game programs like Firefox and 4080 for games (reducing cpu usage). But on my computer it emit coil whine. Thanks.

on most boards the igpu kill switch is in bios/uefi under something like:
Advanced → Integrated Graphics / iGPU / IGFX
or Chipset → Internal Graphics

set that to Disabled (wording varies: IGFX Multi-Monitor Off, Primary Display = PCIe/PEG only).

save and reboot. then check:
lspci | grep -i vga

you should only see the 4080 line.

if the option is missing, set Primary Display / Init Display First to PEG/PCIe so the board parks the igpu.

That is unfortunately not so easy to say in common. that depends what Mainboard You have. @nite_route named some possible Options. It can be, too that it is more indirect listed so that You can choose for Example PCIe for Graphics Output - which would be the external Graphics. And there should be offered an internal Option, too.

What could help: You could post some Pictures from Your BIOS. So, we could take a Look at it and guide You in a Direction.
