I am having difficulty changing the keyboard layout used on boot up for the encryption key. It defaults to a US keyboard layout despite the system as a whole being set to a UK layout.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How are the Keyboard Layout set up in the Settings? Can You make a Screenshot?
Okay, and how it is in Your BIOS? Do You have there a Language Setting to set up specifically English UK?
Maybe it could help to add your password in us layout as described here?
There are no specific keyboard settings in the BIOS. It's a laptop so the layout of the built in keyboard wouldn't change.
It probably should have noted, I've only had this issue with Zorin. Ubuntu, when encrypted, always defaulted to the UK keyboard layout.
Thanks, but I unfortunately don't speak German and wouldn't rely on Google translate for tech stuff.
Just as noted above though, it's only Zorin where I've had this issue.
