There's still occasional audio/video stuttering, enough to be annoying. If anyone has any ideas that could be helpful? Otherwise I'll just have to downgrade back to 6.5.0-45 and admit defeat on this endeavor.
This is not a defeat. If the later kernel is junk compared to the older stable one,. that is accepting a win.
You use what works, not what has a bigger number.
Well it was more so meant as a defeated attempt to get it working. I reverted the kernel when i first had the issue without a problem, but reinstalled the new one to give it a shot at finding a way to make it work.
It definitely seems like avoiding 6.8.0-40 is the way to go at this point though.
I've just tried running a Fedora 40 live image. It has the 6.8.5-301.fc40.x86_64 kernel, no sound issues on the machine. Maybe just a small update would solve the problem.
Yeah, could have just been an unlucky choice of kernel version.
6.8.0-40 disabled my display modes, removed my named displays (leaving just one generic display) and disabled my second graphics HDMI output...have now reverted to 6.5.0-45.
Might help someone looking to access kernels, mine are found from the F4 key.
