Lenovo ThinkBook1 - BIOS Black Screen

Hi everyone,

I am currently running Zorin OS 18.1 on a Lenovo ThinkBook 15IIL and I have encountered a critical issue regarding BIOS/UEFI access.

The Problem:
My laptop unexpectedly attempted to boot into a Windows Advanced Options/Recovery screen. This happened despite having Zorin OS installed as the primary system. Since this incident, I am completely unable to access the BIOS menu.

Current Symptoms:

BIOS Black Screen: Whenever I try to enter BIOS (using the Lenovo Novo Button or the F2 key), the screen stays completely black.

External Display Fails: I have tried connecting an external monitor via HDMI and USB-C (closing the lid to force output), but the BIOS menu still refuses to render.

Firmware Access: Commands like systemctl reboot --firmware-setup executed from Zorin OS 18.1 also result in a persistent black screen.

I managed to successfully boot into Zorin OS, but even when I attempt to access the BIOS through the UEFI Firmware Settings option in the startup boot menu, the system still results in a persistent black screen.

Better to make two threads to each issue, else it gets muddy to follow the conversation

"If the BIOS/UEFI screen itself is completely black (no manufacturer logo visible), the issue is likely hardware-related (RAM, GPU, or motherboard) or the display is not detecting the signal. Try reseating RAM, checking display cables, or testing with a different monitor.

Access to BIOS on a Lenovo should be possible by repeatedly hitting F2 key on startup.

update : the problem was that i still had a partition of windows that was 200mb, i deleted it and now it works
