Lights on No one home

I apologize if the title is too Crass. I am trying to Zorin core to run on it entirely, but it won't run after I changed the BIOS Boot Order it's a HP. I cannot enter BIOS, or Desktop to display. I have a friend who plans on getting it a VCA cable to get it to maybe use the internal graphics to display. The fans on everything turn on, but no one is home. It went through the entire thing just fine it's when I switched to secure boot, and switched the Boot order. That is when it went from No kernel to nothing on display. I plan to take it into the Tech I know, and see if a wiser wizard can make it work, but any inputs would be greatly appreciated. I have tried getting a keyboard to work, but the keyboard aren't even being powered on.

Any hope?

Hi and welcome.

Your graphics card is probably the issue. Starting afresh I would boot into live mode (Try Zorin) and run the Boot Repair utility so that you get a GRUB menu with a timeout of 10 seconds. Alternatively to get to GRUB menu with your machine in it's current state I would try pressing the Esc(ape) key repeatedly or left shift key repeatedly to get GRUB menu.

Now I am getting ahead of myself. Let's get back to normal.

Before going further, make sure you earth yourself by touching something metal before approaching the motherboard, turn the PSU switch to off and then remove the power cord, then:

First I would attempt to reset your motherboard by:

  1. Taking the cell battery out for 30 seconds and then replacing it.

  2. After replacing the battery to short the CMOS reset pins with a flat-bladed insulated handle screw driver then see if you can boot into BIOS.

I did not like the description you gave of the fans booting up as this may indicate possible motherboard failure, and if you don't here a solitary beep at switching on, you may have RAM issues.

Your nvidia card needs older nvidia drivers for Linux which don't ship with modern distros, it needs the 390 drivers.

Try to turn off secure boot in your BIOS.

He can't do that until he has reset the BIOS because his keyboard is not working.

Hello,
I thank you as my rig works now. The VGA cable didn't help, but removing the CMOS and I tried tripping it's reset I don't know if I did. That did it and We have Lights!! I didn't need to change really anything, but I do need to setup the ethernet cable on it. Any precautions?

In terms of connecting ethernet cable attach while machine is powered off. Basically connect one end into ethernet port on router (this does not have to be powered down) and other into onboard LAN connector on PC.
Then check to see if it gets picked up. If you have a connection that is working the network activity light should be flickering green (historically) or flashing amber depending on the LED used. If there are no LED activity your onboard LAN could have died. The alternative is to buy an ethernet off eBay.

Thank You. If this doesn't work I will open a new question. (I will link it if I remember to) I thank you all for Your time effort, but this problem is no more.
