So I have zeroed-in on the problem : the Battle_net icon when running through Heroic causes the freeze. Is this something we should tag the Zorin crew about? Is there any chance that it would/could be addressed or is it useless to bring up? Thanks!
Is Heroic installed as Flatpak? If yes, You could try the offered .deb Version instead:
Interesting suggestion. It would not be the first time Flatpak would've cause me issues. It IS indeed the Flatpak version that I installed from the store. I downloaded the DEB version. I will uninstall everything tonight (can't right now, playing WoW with my wife.
), install the DEB version, test and report backl.
I uninstalled the Flatpak version, installed the DEB and the freezing is exactly the same. ![]()
Hmm ... Okay, then let's try something different. Switch to Wayland. To do that go the Login Screen. Click there on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it. Then it depends if You have installed Zorin with Nvidia Driver or without.
When the active Option is ''Zorin Desktop'', there should be another Option called ''Zorin Desktop on Wayland'' - choose that.
If the active Option is ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'', there should be another Option called ''Zorin Desktop'' - choose that.
After selecting, log in and check if it helps.
I got a very very interesting result. I switched to Wayland and the problem is still the exact same. Lockscreen while Battle_net icon is active makes the computer freeze. I got into CTRL+F3 to reboot. When the login screen is then available, I enter my password as usual, get a black screen ... then the log in screen again! I tried two more times, black screen, kick to log in screen. I'm now typing this on X11 as Wayland doesn't let me log in anymore. ![]()
the mysteries of Wayland, the unfinished and unstable display server protocol...
Was only a try to see what happen. I read here in the Past sometimes that switching to Wayland helped. But this might be fall under Exceptions.
I'm a bit out of Ideas to be honest. The only Thing what come to my Mind would be to try a different Driver.
It happened again. I tried to change video drivers with the built in drivers tool and my wifi got nuked. I can't use my computer again.
I suspect this could be a kernel thing because my system won't even read usb keys now, complaining about I supported file format in the kernel. Sadly I have no idea how to change kernel version in Zorin, plus the fact that I don't have internet anymore...
you can take a look at this to downgrade kernel maybe it will help
To switch to an older Kernel, choose on the GRUB Menu ''Advanced Options'' and there take the one with the older Kernel. Shouldn't this work, too you could try it with installing an older Kernel from the Repo's. @Nourpon already have linked You to Instructions.
